Pregnant after a Loss

The best sound I have ever heard in my life....

is my baby's heart beat which I unexpectedly got to hear today!

Furthermore, boy what a difference a doctor makes!  All of my appointments last pregnancy (except the miscarriage appt) and the first one with this pregnancy were with NP Sue.  I used to like her because she would always talk to me about whatever book I brought in to read while I waited.  But the last few times she seemed unconcerned about me and my fears.

Today I had Dr. Mackaronis, a male.  He answered all my questions. I had already told the nurse I was nervous when she took my blood pressure so I wonder if she warned him.  He walked in with the doppler in his hands and I am pretty sure my face lit up like a kid on Christmas.  I asked my questions which I had written down on my list so I didn't forget any.  The last question was which appointment would they start using  a doppler...so I just looked at him and said--you sort of already answered that :) I also told him I know I am 10 weeks and that's right on the cusp of being about to pick up on a doppler.  He said "You're right but we'll try."

I brought up my ultrasound tomorrow, and I said if there's a problem like last time would I be about to get in to the office that day (last time I had a 20 hour wait period from the time the tech told me there was something wrong and the time I got to actually find out what it was from the doctor).  He asked what rad office I was going to.  He made a face, then shifted the conversation to the Down's screening. I told him I would not terminate, so I didn't know if there was really a point in that.  He explained that in his opinion the rad office I was going to has techs that "like to hide in the basement and avoid talking to the patients." He would rather me go to the office where all they do is OB u/s and the techs treat you better--and the only way we could do that is to go for the down's screening (see my doc knows his loopholes).  He assured me he could get me in Friday or Monday, so I canceled tomorrow's u/s and will get a call tomorrow to let me know when my appointment is (my OB's office makes the appt).  <3 I am loving this doctor.

So then the doppler.  He had to check my pulse while he did it because my heart was racing.  Once we filtered out my hb, we could hear the baby loud and clear (o did I mention the nurse made sure to get DH back there).  I sighed and the baby moved. Tears of joy on my face and the biggest grin on DH's.  What a relief.  This is the best Christmas gift ever :)
