We have a king size and LOVE IT!! But make sure you have enough room for it in your house, and take into consideration how long you be staying in the house you're buying it in.
Also, a queen will seem like a twin once you've been in your king for a while!
Canadian prices are a bit different, but we got ours for about $1500, and that was price matched with a competitive store. We got it from Sleep Country Canada, and it was regular $2700. It's a Sealy, I believe, but it has the extra foam on top.
We have a pillow top california king (not sure if that is bigger than a regular king or not) but I aboslutly love it! We got it from Ivan Smith durring a big sale so only ended up paying about 1500 for it and the head/foot board. It's so much better than the queen we sleep on when we visit my parents. There is enough room for both of us to stretch out and still not touch!
Love ours!!! When we stayed at my mom's over the holidays, we slept in a Queen and it felt sooo small. We got ours for just under 1000 (but it was a 1300 dollar mattress) at Mattress Discounters. Ours is also a pillowtop. Totally worth the money. Though I do agree that you need to make sure that your bedroom is large enough because they do take up a lot of space.
We LOVE ours. I can't imagine ever going back to a smaller bed.
We spent $1200 (I think) about 5 or 6 years ago, and bought it at The Original Mattress Factory. Ours is the Orthopaedic Premier Super Super Pillow Top, so not the highest end mattress they make, but one below that. When I go out of town, my back knows it, my husband will drive home if at all possible just to sleep in our bed. We are in love with our mattress.
I have one and I absolutely love it. I love having the extra room in the bed. It was heaven when I was pregnant. We have 2 cats sleeping with us too so it can get crowded. We got ours at Sears on sale. I think it's a tempurpedic. Don't get it. I hate it. I feel like it sags where we sleep and we've only had it a few years. But definitely without question get a king asap. You'll never regret it.

thanks everyone! We are going to co sleep and we often end up with one or both boys in bed with us so we're looking to upgrade our queen. However, it's been 9 years ish since we bought a mattress so I feel a little hesitant about the cost and whatnot.
We have a pillowtop now and I'm not sure we'd do that again. But especially Jen&Carl thanks for the don't get the temperpedic rec. That's VERY helpful!!
Love ours. It took me 24 years to get a queen (for myself) from having a twin. I was not into sharing after waiting so long, so we went king. I don't remember what we paid, but we went to Sleepys. We weren't going to buy yet (I figured we would, but DH wasn't "ready"), and going in with that mentality got the guy to come down significantly. We were ready to walk out and he probably gave it to us for more than half off, probably a quarter or third the original price. Just play tough, like you would a car.

I could not live without a King mattress. I love all the room. I have a Tempurpedic and I LOVE it! They have several different models and ours is one of the mid range ones and I am sure that makes a difference. I would buy it again.

We have a king and love it. And I agree with PP that when you sleep in a queen after a king, it will feel tiny!!
I actually used to sell mattresses in the furniture store I worked in. So I got ours directly from the Sealy factory. I think we paid wholesale pricing of around $800-900 for a mattress that was selling for close to $3000 in our store. So don't pay full price, mattress mark-ups are ridiculous!!
I love, love, love our king-size mattress. We could never downgrade to a queen after having it.
I'm not 100% sure on what particular model we have, but it's a Sealy that we got four or five years ago from Raymour & Flanigan. It cost us $1100 and was worth every cent.
I've never talked to anyone who had a king and regretted it!
We have a Cal King and I freaking love that thing. As you know we cosleep and even with DH being a big boy at 6'4, we have enough room for all of us. We got it on sale at Macy's.

It's amazing!
LOVE ours.
We spent somewhere around $600 on sale from $900. It is a pillow top and very comfy.
We got it at The Mattress Firm.
I couldn't live without mine. I love it.
I don't know how much it cost though or where it was from because our bed come with DH. He bought it just a month before we started dating.
