DF Hot chocolate

It's that time of year.  It's chilly here and it's going to be cold again at night for the next week or so that I can see.  (In the mid-30's and only a space heater to warm the living room).  I just made some with the almond milk that I have.  I like that the hot chocolate is nice and thick feeling but there is still a strong almond taste.  I just want to taste the cocoa powder and vanilla.  Is there a different milk I should be using so there's no extra flavor in there?

Re: DF Hot chocolate

  • I've been making my hot chocolate with almond milk & I really like it and actually DON'T notice the flavor... especially compared to soy milk (yuck!).

  • I would probably use vanilla soy. Or you could try hazelnut, since it is so delicious with chocolate.
  • I could try hazelnut since that's one of my favorite nuts.  Would rice milk have less of a flavor?  I don't do soy milk since I can't really wrap my head around it tasting good.  Tofu itself is so easy to screw up for me that I think that ruins soy milk for me.

  • what hot chocolate do you use?  All the ones I've seen, store bought or homemade, have milk in them :(  I'd love to know what to look for when I go to the store!

  • Hersheys unsweetened cocoa powder is dairy free as far as I can tell. I sweeten that up to my liking. I'm going to pick up a bottle of ah-laska next time I see it. And ghiradelli's 72% dark chocolate gives a nice flavor broken up and melted in with cocoa powder.
