my cracked azz nips has now caused me to have mastitis. H is going to get my antibiotic but it sucks b/c Carson has been so difficult to wake to eat today. Anyone else have this? Any helpful tips?
Ah yes, I am part of the "club". I had it a couple weeks ago. I was SO miserable. My boob was killing me and on top of it I had chills and stuff too. Mine also appeared after having a super cracked and bleeding nip. Nice right??? I finished my antibiotic yesterday. I started to feel better within 24 hours.
I had been (and I am again) nursing on one side each feeding. The dr. told me to make sure I started her on the bad boob each feeding to keep things flowing so the clog would clear and no more would pop up. I also used the cabbage a couple times and that felt good as well. Lanisoh is my friend and I still keep a close eye to make sure everything is ok, I'm so worried to get it again. Feel better!!!!

Just getting over it. Hot packs, cold packs, hot showers, massage, ibuprofen to fend off chills and soreness (especially in the evening). Feel better soon.
Thanks for the advice ladies! I've been nursing him every 2 hrs even throughout the night...he seems to whine on the bad breast. I guess he doesn't like the taste of that side? Hopefully things get better once my meds kick in
I had it last Monday, and it sucked royal donkey balls. I've never felt so crappy, and my boob felt like one giant bruise. Nurse, nurse, nurse... and if he's too sleepy to nurse, try pumping. Massage the sore spots while nursing. But be warned--sometimes the milk that is in the clogged/infected spots can come out thick... almost like cottage cheese or stringy... I wish someone had told me that because it totally freaked me out!
Use a cold compress after nursing to help with sore spots. Use a warm compress directly on the sore spots before nursing to help get the milk flowing.
Rest, rest, rest (as much as you can--I have 2 kids and know that can be a challenge!)... and know that the antibiotic you take might cause thrush, so keep an eye out for that.
