My sister in law who is about 32 weeks preg with a singleton was just admitted to the hosp to check for pre-e. Just curious what is done if its found she has it? And I know a lot of ladies on here had it..
With my DD, I was admitted to the hospital at exactly 32 weeks. They were able to control my BP through meds. However, my DD failed her BPP's while there so that's why I delivered at 33 weeks. My placenta shut down due to the pre-e and was no longer nurishing her the way it should. Because of this she was IUGR and only weighed 2lbs. 15oz. and I delivered at 33 weeks. She spent 23 days in the NICU. I had the steriod shots while there and was just basically a feeder/grower even with her tiny size. Her pic is in my siggy - you would never know she was a preemie now.
When I was admitted to the hopsital at 35w2d for borderline pre-e they monitored my bp and checked my urine/blood every couple of hours. I stayed overnight because I started having contractions. I was released the next afternoon because the numbers hadn't gone up enough to cause alarm and was told to be on strict bedrest and they were hoping I could hold out till 36 weeks. My water ended up breaking 1130pm the night I was released and I had an emergency csection at 230am....so much for the strict bedrest! Depending on how high her protein levels are they may just keep her and monitor her for a while, possibly put her on medication, or if the numbers are to high they may have to induce/do csection. My OB said the only way to cure pre-e is to give birth. When I was wheeled into the OR my bp was through the roof and within 5 minutes of the babies being born it was almost back to normal, it did take a few days for my liver enzymes to get back to normal though.
Thank you ladies! They are probably going to keep her overnight and are taking urine tests every hour I believe. Hopefully she can keep hers baking for much longer!
Re: Question about pre-e
Pre-e has different levels of severity. Depending on how intense it is, she could end up on bed rest or could be delivered very soon.
They look for elevated blood pressure, protein in your urine, platelet levels in your blood, changes in vision, etc. I hope everything works out well!
Katie: 1/16/08 2lbs. 15oz.
Abby & Emily: 12/31/10 6lbs. 2oz. & 5lbs. 7oz.
