So we've CD'd up to now and we've been working on getting DD used to the toilet. Thinking about training pants, what do you suggest? I know it needs to be something she can pull up and down herself, but I have no idea where to start with that. Suggestions?
Re: potty training at CDing
We never used training pants with DD. She went straight from (cloth) diapers to underwear. It worked out better that way, because she totally knew when she was in something that would make a mess if she peed (like underwear) and when she could pee with no mess (diapers or training pants).
There were a few times during the early weeks in underwear when an accident would have been a real disaster, e.g. on a 10-hour plane flight home from Europe, and we used disposable pull-ups for that. We bought one pack of disposable pull-ups and it lasted for the entire potty training period. It was cheaper than ONE pair of cloth training pants...
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
We spent a lot of time bare butt to be honest. We also used gerber padded trainers that were not waterproof. They helped make clean ups a little easier on catching it as she ran to the potty, but if she peed with no attempts to get to the potty there was a big puddle. As she got better and I began trusting her out of the house, I would throw a wool soaker over the gerber to help contain a little better, but again if she made no attempt there would be a mess.
We have a few night time trainers, because it took her a little longer to be dry through the nights & she is allergic to disposable pull-ups. The ladder hill designs trainers are really nice and have a pocket to adjust absorbency. One step ahead dri nights are OK...some nights it contained other nights it leaked.
With DS I will use gerber trainers and the hand-me down night trainers. I will also use fitteds snapped loosely with wool for trips out of the house. That option can be pulled up and down, will make him feel wet, but will contain for those times I really need it to be contained.
