2nd Trimester

Irrational fear (vent)

At my last dermatologist appointment the Dr. noticed that one of my moles had changed in color and shape.  The Dr. said it's normal for that to happen when you are pregnant, but I should have it removed just in case.  So tomorrow I'm having it removed along with another one.  Once they are removed they are being sent to the Mayo clinic for testing.  They probably are both benign, but the what-if's keep surfacing.

I'm scared to see what Dr. Google says about mole changes in pregnancy, I'm hoping she would confirm what my Dr. said.

Re: Irrational fear (vent)

  • Just wanted to say that I understand how you are feeling.  I have a lot of small moles and I have noticed one on my upper stomach really bothering me lately.  I have to go to hte Dermatologist in a couple of weeks and I'm nervous about it.  The what-ifs get me everytime too but I'm sure you are fine.  Stay away from Dr. Google!!!  hahahhaa!

  • DO NOT ASK DR. GOOGLE!!!!  DR. GOOGLE is a hypochondriac.  Stick with what your doctor said and wait for the results.  I know it's a long wait, I've had to go through one of those, but doctor google will just stress you out more!

  • My OB told me it was normal, too.  One of my moles (that my dad and grandmother also have in the same place) has gotten a little bigger.  I've also got red spots all over my chest and arms, like little burst blood vessels, that really freaked me out the first few weeks.  He said that more than likely they will all return back to normal or go away after baby is born!  I would definitely stay away from Dr. Google... I think I get better info from the ladies on this board! :)

  • I've had a whole bunch of moles removed to get checked and I've always been fine. I'm sure you will as well. I have one on my stomach that is changing a whole bunch because of my stomach stretching. I was hoping to get it removed when I go in next week for my appointment. The funny thing is I didn't know if they could during pregnancy. I know that's silly and there shouldn't be a reason not to but there is so much that they don't want you to do during pregnancy I just didn't know if that was one of them.

They use local anesthesia so my Dr. said it was fine to have it removed while I was pregnant.

  • I have to do yearly skin checks with my derm. I have a ton of moles and just had some (5) removed in September. I knew I wanted to start TTC at the time and I was scared that the results would come back abnormal. I am very thankful that everything came out ok, because I was already pregnant and just did not know it. Good luck and don't google!
  • I googled for you: "Moles frequently become larger or darker during pregnancy. Scientists believe that hormonal changes may be responsible for this increased pigmentation."

Try to relax - as worried as you are, you'll be FINE :)
