S/O Molars....

When do they typically come in and how can you even tell?  Just by sticking your finger in there?  Brenna will just about take off my entire finger whenever I come near her mouth!! LOL

  • The only way I can look at Margaux' teeth is if we play "upside down baby."  I can usually see pretty well in there on the "down" phase when she's laughing.

  • Aaron got his upper 1st molars at 15 months.   He still doesn't have the bottoms, though I think they're imminent as his gum is all swollen in that area.

I think the average age range for them is 13-19 months (per chart below):

    Primary Teeth Development Chart
Upper Teeth When tooth emerges When tooth falls out
Central incisor 8 to 12 months 6 to 7 years
Lateral incisor 9 to 13 months 7 to 8 years
Canine (cuspid) 16 to 22 months 10 to 12 years
First molar 13 to 19 months 9 to 11 years
Second molar 25 to 33 months 10 to 12 years
    Lower Teeth
Second molar 23 to 31 months 10 to 12 years
First molar 14 to 18 months 9 to 11 years
Canine (cuspid) 17 to 23 months 9 to 12 years
Lateral incisor 10 to 16 months 7 to 8 years
Central incisor 6 to 10 months 6 to 7 years

  • Well obviously, I didn't realize his three (or four??) molars were actually in until now.   Like P, I had him upside down and he was laughing when we saw them.   Since then, I did shove my finger in there and for a split second, I could kinda feel how big they were.   Then he bit the crap outta me and I ended my exploration.. fast!

  • With T, she got big pink swollen bumps on her gums for a few weeks before the molars actually came in and had looser stools than usual (not a fun time for any of us).  All four of hers came in between 13-14 months.  I usually can get a look if I ask her to say aahhhhhhhh and open my own mouth wide like I'm at the dentist, she'll usually copy me.  I do stick my finger in to feel sometimes and go as much on the side of her mouth as I can so I don't get my finger chewed on.  She bites hard!

  • The only way I could tell was by getting him upside down and making him laugh. He got his 1 year molars right around his birthday.
