2nd Trimester

need reassurance..

I started feeling my baby boy beginning of week 19...and since then it's been off and on, never anything consistent.

2 days ago, he was really kicking up a storm for a good 15 minutes in the afternoon and a little bit in the evening, it got me really excited because i was hoping this meant i would start feeling him consistently everyday, help put me at ease...

well, of course,  yesterday and today, i have hardly felt him and it's starting to freak me out!!

luckily i have a fetal doppler at home and i checked it last night and the heartbeat was pumping away quick and loud! but still...i just want to feel my baby!!! >.<

Re: need reassurance..

  • have you been busy?  i freaked out a couple of days ago because i didn't feel her- the next morning she was back kicking around.

at my appointment last week my dr. couldn't find her hb- took me to do an ultrasound... she was just moving around so  much that it wouldn't pick up on the doppler.  and i couldn't feel any of that movement!

i'm sure he is just chilling or moving and you don't feel it.  try not to stress!

  • I have also not been able to feel mine too much during busy times.  When I have days when I'm on my feet a lot I don't feel him as much.  But you did hear the hb so I'm sure things are good.

  • I haven't been any busier than my normal routine...and when i listen in on my fetal doppler, both  my hubby and I can definitely feel him moving around in there like a gymnast! and you're right...i can't feel those movements all the time.

I know im probably just freaking myself out by overthinking it, but still....it's hard not to!!

I have to keep remembering that he is also sleeping like 18hours a day! lol

  • i had this happen around 20 weeks too. There was a couple weeks were he just kind of dropped off and didn' move much...but he's back kicking away and much harder now.

I think this is very common from what i've read on the other boards. Don't worry, the kicks and pains are coming. :)

  • They tell you not to begin kick counts until 24-26 weeks because until then the movement is too inconsistent- so I wouldn't worry about it right now.

  • I just asked my sister the same thing. She said this...they are still pretty small and have a lot of room to disappear for awhile.

  • This happens to me as well.  My doctor told me that it is perfectly normal, and things should be more consistent around 28 weeks.  She also said that some people don't even feel anything at all at 20 weeks.  No need to worry :)

  • I started feeling him consistently every day maybe around 24 weeks or so. But back when I was like 19-20 it was very inconsistent and days where I was moving more it was less. But now I feel him all of the time and the movements are harder and sometimes a tad bit painful. I am sure everything is fine he is just still small.

  • I'm right there with you. I've been a ridiculous worry wart throughout this pregnancy because of everything that we've been through so far and I'm dying to feel my LO move around on a regular basis, just as a reminder that all's well. At least we have an ultrasound tomorrow so that will help set my mind at ease.... again.

  • At my 18 week ultrasound the tech said I probably wouldn't feel the baby on a regular basis till 22-23 weeks.  The reason being my placenta is in front of my uterus adding extra cushion.  Therefore I won't feel the baby too much till she gets stronger.  I have only felt her once and it felt like she did a somersault.  I can't wait till it's every day!
