3rd Trimester

What car seat did you register for or buy?

Hi, I wanted to cross over here to the 3rd trimester board as probably many of you can share why you registered or bought certain items.

We plan to register in the next week or so, so I need to start to do some more research.

What car seat did you register for or buy and why?

We plan to register for the City Mini stroller, in case that may impact our choice of car seat. As I understand it, most big brand car seats have an adapter to work with the stroller.

Looking forward to your input!

Re: What car seat did you register for or buy?

  • We bought the Chicco Keyfit 30 and the City Mini with the adapter.  Haven't had a chance to play around with them as our apt is being renovated so everything is still in boxes but it seems to be a common combination.

  • We have a Chicco Keyfit 30 and absolutely love how easy it is to use.  We went with Chicco because it's design/look is pretty plain and simple...Graco wasn't that way when we had DS but it looks like Graco has mellowed a bit in design.  Graco was our runner up.

You definitely need to check for compatibility to the stroller you want.  Although most big name carseats will be compatible, not all will.

  • Infant carrier - Chicco Keyfit 30 (I got the travel system).

Convertable car seat - Britax Marathon

I love them both (we actually have 2 Britax so we can have one in each car).

  • Another Chicco Keyfit here.  We picked that one for several reasons--rated #1 in Consumer Reports, recs from friends, liked the design and colors, etc.

BIL helped us install before going to FD for inspection, and he was shocked at how easy it was to install compared to Gracos, which he had used for both of his kids.

  • We got an Evenflo Aura Elite Travel System for the stroller and infant car seat,

and then we also got the Evenflo Triumph 65 convertible car seat. It has the handle on the side that lets you easily adjust the straps. We love both.

  • We used the City Mini w/ the regular Graco Snugride.  We also have the Britax Roundabout as our convertible carseat.

  • We got the Graco SnugRide 30. I read the reviews on it, and it looks pretty good. It was also tested for side impact which I've heard is a good thing to watch for. We registerd for the matching stroller.

  • Graco SnugRide 35.

For strollers, we're getting the City Mini but not the adapter - opted for the Graco SnugRider snap-n-go frame instead for use with the carseat.

ETA: Forgot to answer the why: We compared the SR35 to the KF30 for a long time and didn't see much difference. The SR allows for babies up to 32", whereas the KF allows up to 30", and that was one pro for the SR, since weight limits don't mean much because babies will almost always outgrow the seat in height before weight. The KF seemed a bit easier to use and we liked the muted colors better, but the SR had softer fabrics.

They were really close and the two deciding factors were 1) The SR extra base, which we need, is $50 vs. the KF extra base at $85 (the SR seat itself is also less expensive), and 2) We liked that Graco has its own snap-n-go stroller frame that the infant seat really does SNAP into, vs. the seat just sitting on top of the frame with a strap for "security."

  • We also bought the Chicco keyfit 30 due to the rating in consumer reports and I liked the style. I haven't used it yet, but it seems easy to put on and take off. We bought the whole travel system and I like that the stroller is easy to put together. It is heavy though. HTH.

  • We got the Graco Snugride 32 from Wal-Mart, but ONLY because I had a gift card to use there, and it was just about the right amount for an infant car seat. It seems fine, but I'd honestly rather have a Chicco.

Once LO outgrows the infant seat, though, we have a Britax Boulevard that I'm excited to use.

  • We have the Chicco Key Fit and use it with our City Mini ... it was a GREAT infant seat with DS #1.  When we moved up to a convertible (at about 7 months) we got a Britax Roundabout 50.  Another GREAT car seat.

  • We got a Chicco Keyfit 30 and a snap-and-go stroller. We'll eventually get some kind of lightweight stroller when she's older.

  • We bought the Britax Chaperone. It was a bit pricey, but I found a decent deal on Amazon.com. We went with this seat because it felt very sturdy and was the only one that scored excellent in the safety category in independent crash tests.

We also considered Chicco. I hear good things about Graco, but every one that I felt in the stores felt really cheap and flimsy.

FWIW, we also have the City Mini stroller. We bought the adaptor bar, but it turns out it was only suited for the older model carseat. After looking up online instructions, we found out the car seat can actually attach to the stroller with just an adaptor strap that came with the seat.

  • We got the SnugRide 35 (Racer pattern) with the Snugrider stroller frame.  Then, I registered for the City Mini for later.  Love it!

  • snug ride 35... it had great ratings side impact tested bla bla bla .... but really- i liked the green stripe !!!

we got a snap and go to go with it and then a city elite ? jogging stroller ( it was on sale and my parents got it as a christmas gift for us) we havent gotten the adaptor for the car seat for the jogging stroller  because the baby is due in the winter so when we take the baby out to walk the dog it will be on a sidewalk and can just use the snap and go... by the time it gets warm enough to go walking trails where we would use the jogging stroller the baby should have enough head control that we can just recline the stroller seat.

  • We bought the graco snugride 35, because it went with the stroller we purchased. We got the Uppababy vista stroller & so far we are very happy with both! There were only a few choices of car seats in which there was an adapter for the stroller we picked, and the snugride 35 seemed like the best choice for us. Good luck!

  • Chicco Keyfit 30 and we have the BJ City Elite stroller. There is an adaptor to make the Chicco work with the the City line but you have to be careful with Chicco as it is not compatible with all strollers.

  • Add me to the growing list of those who have the Chicco Keyfit 30! We were going to use it with the Uppababy Vista until my super generous co-workers bought us a Bob Revolution AW!

  • Chicco Keyfit 30 and BJ City Elite. DH is tall, and needed a stroller that he could adjust the handles on, otherwise we would have gone with the City Mini.
  • Graco Sungride 35 with the BOB Urban stroller and carseat adapter.  We love them both and since we are not expecting a small or short baby, these will grow with them until we switch to a convertible.
