We have done the tests, seen the doctors and hoped against hope but we know now. Morgan has moderate-severe hearing loss in both ears.We have our next appointment in about 3 weeks to get her hearing aids. I am really sad about it sometimes, it is taking me a while to adjust but we have some great resources here. So far it looks like there are no other issues and I am glad for that.
I am super busy now with both of my girls and I don't get the bump time I used to at work but I hope everyone had great holidays.
Re: It's official: DD2 can't hear.
Sunny,
I'm sorry to hear that and I know it must be a blow, even knowing how well science is helping hearing impaired people. I hope the hearing aids help her and I hope that you are finding the support you need, too. I took ASL classes in college and I know you'll pick it up quickly, if you're going that route.
Please keep us up-to-date about how she, and Brigid, are doing. I know you don't have the time to Bump, but you're always welcome here.
Hang in there and have a happy New Year.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Luckily it's been caught early so she can get the treatment she needs.

My Blog

Hi Sunny,
I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing with the 2 girls. I can't believe Morgan is already over 2 months old! I am so sorry to be reading this and was really hoping for the better when you first announced it a few weeks back....and i'm sure you are very much aware that the technological advances are incredible now and no matter how advanced her loss of hearing is, there are and will always be a million ways to communicate. I wanted to give you big hugs not only for this, but for being such a great mom to two adorable and beautiful girls. You rock mama! XOXO

This. And FWIW, I went to law school with an amazing guy who had complete hearing loss in one ear and significant loss in the other - he was a star student AND athlete and you'd never have known about his disability until you saw him reading your lips from across the room! Nonetheless, I'm sorry you have to go through this and am sending you positive thoughts and prayers. I also love the idea of including your other DD in the sign classes, it will be fun for them to have their own secret code. Hugs and best wishes for a happy new year.
I'm so sorry - I can imagine that if I were in your position it would really suck to learn that. Life with Morgan will still be beautiful and amazing.
FWIW, the head RVT at the hospital I work at is deaf. She has cochlear implants and does everything any other tech does and more. Also, when I was in grad school I took neuroanatomy with the med students. A guy in my study group was deaf. He had someone who helped with translation when he had to do his surgery rotations (sing language - can't read lips with a surgery mask on) and had a little device that made heart sounds accessible to him. He's a family medicine doctor now and doing great.
