Christmas Day evening I started feeling a little bit of a trickle, but I thought I might just be leaking pee. I was still feeling it the next morning, so I called the doctor and he told me to go on into L&D! I drove up to the hospital while DH got all our stuff ready and took DS1 to my mom's house. Sure enough, I was leaking fluid!
I wasn't having any serious contractions so they put me on pitocin about 11am. I got the epidural around 2:30pm when things were starting to get really painful, just a light dose to take the edge off the contractions. About 4:30, I got checked and I was at 8cm, so DH left the room to go to the car. All of a sudden, I felt a ton of pain and pressure. I thought surely it wasn't time since I was just checked, but I felt it again and knew it was time to push.
Epidural had worn off and I was feeling everything. Doctor and DH got into the room and it was time to push. It hurt SO BADLY! It took only 2 contractions to push him out, a total of 3 minutes of pushing. 2nd degree episiotomy that I definitely felt (ouch!) and I could feel the stitches afterward too (double ouch!)
Merrick Michael was born at 4:57pm, 8 lbs and 20 inches long. He's nursing great and doing wonderfully! I'm exhausted, but it's so much less overwhelming the second time around!
Re: Merrick is here! Birth story!
