Bedtime too early?

My boys go to bed at 6:30 each night, they get up at 6:30 in the morning with one feeding in between. This seems so early to me for bed but they absolutely will not stay up any later than that. They will literally just pass out if we try. That or have a meltdown. :). Is this too early? Will they stay up a bit lat as they get older? thanks!

Re: Bedtime too early?

  • Not too early.  My boys would love bedtime to be 6:30 every night.  Unfortunately we can only do that early on the weekends.

During the week, when we pick them up from DC, we normally don't start the routine until 7 or so, but those days they take a snooze in the car on the way home.

  • I think it's a great time. My older child went to bed at 6:30 every night (she pretty much dictated this. Like you said, if she stayed up later....meltdown). She now goes to bed at 7:00 (only 30 minutes later). I love the early bedtime because it also gives me an evening. DH and I can eat dinner and have time to ourselves.

The twins are in bed by 7:00 at the latest.

  • I've read that babies need approx 12 hours of sleep.  If they need to get up at 6:30, bed at 6:30 sounds right.

  • that's what ours do.  It's early but you do your evening baby free.

our twins sleep from 6:30pm to 7am.

  • that's what my girls did until they were almost a year old...around then it shifted to 7ish...some nites they would even be in bed asleep by 6:15pm...it stunk (didn't get much time together on the weeknites)...but well rested babies = happy babies...
  • 6:30 is a great bedtime, don't change a thing. At that age my girls were going to bed between 6 and 6:30pm. They kept that bedtime until I became a SAHM at 11 months old, then it got pushed to 7pm and they were sleeping until 8:30am, but my girls needed more sleep than the average baby. Starting at 4 months they no longer got up anymore at night. They went to bed between 6 and 6:30pm and slept straight through until 8 am when I had to get them up to go to daycare in the morning.

  • My twins went to bed at 6:30 until the past few weeks, now we're moving them to 7:00.  DS1 has gone to bed at 7:30 every night since he was around 4m old and we're just now moving his bedtime to 8:00.  Do what works for you.
  • We were at 6:30/6:45 for quite a while when they were little.  Totally normal.  Last year when DLS started we were able to move them to 7:30.  I know that doesn't work for everyone, but maybe we got lucky with their age at the time.  Now they go to bed by 8pm, and sometimes I miss that early bedtime.

  • My girls have been going to bed at 6:30 since they were 2 months old.  They wake up around 6 am.  They set their bedtime very early on.  If we keep them up any later, they whine and rub their eyes.  So, 6:30 it is!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • sounds normal to me :-) they will eventually move it to a later time as they get closer to 1 y/o or their naps change....maybe. Just go with it, they know what they need :-)

  • My twins bedtime has been 7pm for at least the last 3-4 months. They will be 1 year tomorrow and have progressively staying up a little later but no more than about 15 minutes or so. I anticipate this to keep happening and eventually we want to try to move their bedtime to 7:30pm or 8:00pm but for now, 7pm is what works.

I do not think that 6:30pm is too early at all.
