Hi girls - I EBF, but my LO also gets a paci (since day 3 in the hospital because she REALLY likes to suck). We try to only give it to her after trying other soothing techniques first.
Anyway, I have pretty much been feeding by the clock (every 3 hours or so) and she seems content with that, but I keep seeing posts about people who have to cluster feed and I'm nervous I'll miss out on cues that she wants to eat versus just comfort suck & I know that can impact my supply.
Any tips on the difference between a need for comfort and a need to eat?
TIA!

Re: How can I tell - hungry versus wanting to comfort suck?
He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
Thanks!
I feel like I should clarify that I have a really overactive let down and LO will frequently gag and choke when nursing and really doesn't like to comfort suck at the breast - she gets frustrated when she gets so much milk and just wants to be comforted! (hence the paci).
This, but in addition to this when I put her on my boob she gets mad and really fussy. I'll try a couple of times to see if maybe it is just a burp, but it's like she gets mad at my boob because milk is coming out, if that makes sense.
I have this issue in addition to an oversupply problem, so I completely understand. You will learn your LO's cues. I feel like I know what she wants much better each day. It is trial and error with babies!
This exactly.
