Cocoa butter?

I was wondering what all the other moms to be thought of cocoa butter and other creams. Do they work? When do you start using them? I have gotten mixed opinions. Some ladies say they work and some say they don't. I haven't used anything yet but just wanted to see what you all had to say about them! =)

Re: Cocoa butter?

  • I used Queen Helene's Cocoa Butter Cream every day of my pregnancy. No, it did not prevent stretch marks, but I do think that it did a pretty good job at reducing them. I ended up with a teeny little cluster of stretch marks on the lower portion of my belly -not too bad for someone who had stretch marks from puberty! I thought I'd be doomed to be painted with stretch marks because of how easily I got them from that little growth spurt!

  • So do you recommend using it from the beginning? I am just starting to get a bump now and didn't know if I should start now or wait until my belly grew more.
  • None of them work at all.  A friend of mine used it through 2 pregnancies and she got bad stretch marks during both.  And she used that stuff on the regular.  I also tried stuff and have plenty tiger stripes.  Same goes for other friends of mine.  It never hurts to try though.  So if you want to give it a whirl then go for it.

  • From what I've read and what my Dr said, they're genetic.  I was religous with mine from about 3 months on last time and only ended up with one small one, however my mother looks like a tiger swiped her lower belly.  So... I believe it worked for me.

FWIW, your skin gets so dry and itchy that even if you still get stretchmarks from it, it will help with keeping you comfortable and keep your skin fro mgetting too dry.

  • I don't know if they prevent stretch marks, but I've had to start using something to avoid having an itchy stomach. Right around 20 weeks my stomach became itchy. I started using "Burt's Bees Mama Bee's Belly Butter" twice a day and the itching stopping. My SIL got me "Mustela 9 Months Maternity" and it like it as well. It costs a lot more but I may stick with it.

I started from day 1. I'd definitely suggest using it every day from now on. I applied it in the mornings and before bed and after showers. I used a white tank top/under shirt to keep my clothing from getting greasy.

  • the tendency to get stretch marks is genetic, and can come from either your mother or father. (so even if your mom has none, you can still be prone to them)  the creams don't work, but they do relieve itch and dry skin.  mil put palmer's tummy butter in my stocking, and i will say i like it better than the regular palmer's lotion.

  • I use the Vaseline Cocoa Butter everyday and have for about the last 6 weeks. I know stretch marks are genetic, but I feel like they are helping, maybe not the stretch marks part but it is very moisturizing and it just feels good to put on!
