Re: Being Induced...questions

  • My induction with DS went very well. Here is the break down for ya.

    7:30am- Got to hospital

8am-Dressed in gown and hooked up to monitors

8:30am-OB broke my water, I was about 2-3cm, 70% effaced. Started contracting immediately

8:55am-Given a small dose of pitocin, but did not need much since my body was doing well on it's own

10am-Contractions were 2min apart and got the epidural

10:55am-Contractions started spreading out, so received a little more pitocin

    12:55pm-6cm

    1:30pm-Fully dilated, started pushing

    2:03pm- DS was born!

I had an episiotomy, which sorta sucked, but other than that, everything was great. GL!

Just wanted to say Good Luck!

I was overdue--10 days-- and went in at a fingertip dilated and 85% effaced. Went in at midnight, started on Pitocin. Had my baby 20 hours later!

I'll see if I can find my birth story for you.

  • I had gd with my first and this one as well so I understand the induction part... though Im really hoping Jordyn will come around 37 weeks by herself...

    Mine was

    7 get to hospital

8 get my water broken (also 3 cm at this point)

10 am start on pitocin (only 4 cm at this point and no contractions)

Walk, wait walk wait walk wait for hours

9 pm start having contractions - but very far apart -

10 pm get a shot of morphine and go sit in the shower for an hour or so

11 30 ask for epidural becuase contractions are now 30 seconds apart (that pitcoin finally kicked in,)

12 45 got epidural but was still 4 cm

    150 - 7 cms

210 am 10 cm and started pushing

356 am Carter was born after 1.5 hours of pushing...

overall labour was about 6 hours since they don't count when I wasn't having contractions. It was quick and fairly easy but I do recommend the epidural if its taking a long time becuase they said if I had had it earlier then he would have been born sooner since I was more relaxed and such.

    Good luck.

  • I went in at 6 am to be induced and already had an IV and they broke my water by 6:30. When I went in I was already 2 cm and 50% effaced (I was 39 weeks, 5 days.) My contractions were only really painful and hard for about 45 min-1 hour before I was able to get my epidural at 4 cm. I had it in by 9:30. Then I stalled out. I stayed at 4 cm for about 4 hours and they started talking about me having a c-section because she was not moving down. They started thinking she may be too big for my pelvis. I also had to go on oxygen because she went into a sleep pattern and wouldn't really move around much. Next time the dr came in I was at 7, so then things started moving. At 3:00 I felt a lot of pressure and the nurse checked me and I was 9.5 and gave a couple of trial pushes. Everyone went to the waiting room and I really started pushing around 3:15. I started throwing up while pushing, which actually ended up being a good thing because the force of me throwing up pushed her down and she was ready to come! The doctor came in at 4:10 and she was born at 4:20 on the dot. Pushing went well, and even though I couldn't feel anything I definitely could tell by the pressure that I needed to push. I did have a 3rd degree episiotomy, so recovery was a little rough.

I  pray that my labor/delivery is that easy with this baby!  GL!

for me, I was 4cm dialated going into the hospital.  There wasn't a real emergent reason for me induced.  I just had a favorable cervix, so my Dr felt confident it would go well - which it did! I did get an epi soon after they broke my water b/c the pressure and pain was immense! DS was born 8 hours after being induced.

  • On a Monday night I was checked in around 6 or 7 pm and they inserted Cervadil.  I didn't get to see it, but the texture going into me felt like a pumice stone.  I was hooked up to monitors and an IV and had regular blood draws (I think the blood draw was because my dad had barged in after I told him not to come and I was livid, so my bp shot up, then I was being monitored for some other condition).  They came in around 2am and said my platelets were low and dropping and if I didn't get the epi in now, I probably couldn't have it at all.  I got it.  Around 6 they took out the Cervadil.  They let me eat breakfast, give myself a sponge bath and then started the pit drip.  Nothing happened at all, all day.  My dr had told me I could go home after 1 day if it didn't work.  Because of the platelets and the epi, I had to stay.  So, eat dinner, Cervadil overnight.  Pit drip Wed morning.  Finally at 2pm I started having contractions that I could feel.  Baby delivered Thurs morning.

Just be prepared that it really could take awhile if baby isn't ready.  Bring something to keep you occupied.  Our tv only had 4 or 5 channels.  Luckily we had the laptop and Family Guy.
