Travel at 35 weeks

Would you travel 4.5 hours for a weekend away by car at 35 weeks?

Re: Travel at 35 weeks

  • For me it would depend how comfortable I've been feeling and also how comfortable the car is.  I spent a few days sitting around at MIL's around xmas and my back was hurting me from her chairs and sofa.  Then we got stuck in the blizzard driving home and it took us 8 hours (should have been a little over 5!) and my back didn't hurt at all.  I think we stopped two or three times and this was Sunday so I was just shy of 33 weeks.  Also I knew from my last OB appt that my cervix was long and tightly closed -- if I were dilated or effaced I might reconsider being that far from home.

  • I did 1.5 hours to my BF's parents for Christmas and then got stuck in the blizzard coming home so it doubled our travel time and let me tell you 3 hours was enough for me. I was very uncomfortable but then I am fairly uncomfortable anyway.

I cleared it with my dr first so you may want to check yours. My guess is that if you are comfortable and stop enough and have no complications then it's probably fine.

  • With DD#1 I wouldn't have batted an eye at traveling for that length at 35 weeks.  However this time around I am way more uncomfortable all the time.  I went grocery shopping yesterday & ran some errands, got home and I am so sore today!  That being said, we are only doing car rides from now on that last less than 1-2 hours long.  We might go & visit my inlaws next weekend (they live 1 1/2 hours away) & even that will be pushing it I think.  We drive a minivan though so I am able to stretch out a little bit more and use the heated seats - they are a LIFESAVER lately! :)  Just listen to your body & if you feel comfortable doing it - then you'll probably be okay!

  • Just did it last weekend with no problems. Flew across the country the weekend before. Felt great for both trips, but I'm carrying fairly small and don't have any complications.
