a few questions
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt?
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown?
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket?
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds.
What did you wear home? Did it really matter?
I think that's all. I have never been at the hospital and had ds actually with me and have visitors and what not, so I have no idea what they do for ds and what I will need and all that. He hung out nekkid in the nicu but he was under the billi lights for jaundice, so no clothes were needed.
I just really have no clue what you do all day with a newborn in the hospital. Just sleep when he sleeps huh?
Re: 2nd time moms question
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt?
n/a
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown?
I got dressed. I was in my yoga pants and a button down shirt. That way I could pump and still be covered
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket?
n/a
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds.
nope
What did you wear home? Did it really matter?
yoga pants and a sweatshirt. I left after his late night hands on time and honestly it was the furthest thing from my mind. This time I'll wear the same thing, but I'll have my hair and make up done.
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? diaper and shirt.
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? With #1 I wore the hospital gown until I realized that I had been flashing my pastor the entire time e was there visiting because the gown's nursing hole was wide open. I decided to bring my own PJs and robe with #2.
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? hospital blanket
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds. Yes, a lightweight one. I only really put it on when I would go down to the nursery to get the baby or to go out and ask the nurse a question.
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? With #1 I ended up wearing my maternity clothes I arrived in back home because I thought I would magically be thin two days after the birth and had only brought pre-pregnancy clothes. With #2 I packed some comfy lounge around the house clothes to wear home. Honestly, it didn't matter.
I just really have no clue what you do all day with a newborn in the hospital. Just sleep when he sleeps huh? Get rest. Spend hours staring it him. Watch some TV. Chat with visitors. Write your birth story.
I kept Carter in the hospital clothes and blankets until it was time to go home... since the first couple poops from baby are really thick and tary... better their stuff then ours, lol.
I stayed in my hospital gown last time, but this time I am bring black sweat pants and sweater for the hospital... but remember that you will be bleeding a lot and that it could get onto any clothes you bring so, the hospital gown is better for that reason... I think I will just feel more comfortable this time in my own clothes.
Don't worry about a robe but I would bring slippers or really heavy socks. And definately an outfit or two for baby to go home in. Bring maternity clothes to go home in... you won't fit back to regular clother for a couple of weeks after baby at least... my hips where never the same after carter.lol.
Also bring a nursing pillow if you plan on breastfeeding right away... will be so much easier on you. I promise.
Good luck.
I brought my own cute hats but the hospital had a newborn fleece Halo blanket that dd stayed in with a side snap t-shirt and diaper under it.
I got dressed the first chance they let me, a nightgown. So they could still check my incision and such w/o having to pull off pants. I was there for 4 days though.
I did not bring my own, see first answer.
Yes, I brought a lightweight thin one. Made it nice once I had to start walking the halls after my c/s. I didn't feel quite as exposed in my nightgown.
I wore maternity yoga pants and maternity sweatshirt home.
With dd1 we just looked at her a lot during our 4 day stay, we were so in love : ) Also nursing and pumping took up a good chunk of time. This time around though I'll be alone a lot more so dh can go home to dd1 so I'm not sure what I'll do....
do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt?
I kept DS in a onesie and wrapped in the receiving blankets the hospital provided.
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? I thought I would get dressed up but stayed in hospital gown and robe. I didn't want to get my stuff dirty.
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket?Just used the hospitals.
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds. I think I brought one but I'm pretty sure I just used the what hospital provided.
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? In my opinion, it doesn't matter. I wore sweat pants and zip-up hoodie. I wanted to be comfortable as soon as I got home!
It's funny you posted this because DH and I were talking about the same things. We are soo clueless since DD was in the NICU for 23 days. We have no idea what it is going to be like with the babies in the room with us. It's going to be weird.
I can answer some questions since its about recovery. I didn't use a robe. I wore my regular clothes after the catheter was removed and I was able to shower. I had a c-section BTW. As far as what I wore home, I just wore a pair or loose fitting yoga pants and a t-shirt. Just used a fleece jacket since it was January.
It's going to be weird taking home the babies with us when we are discharged. Never thought I would make it to full term. Ha!
Katie: 1/16/08 2lbs. 15oz.
Abby & Emily: 12/31/10 6lbs. 2oz. & 5lbs. 7oz.
do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? My dd stayed in the diaper and t-shirt and swaddled until the day we went home and then I got her dressed.
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? I had a c/s and was in the hospital for 4 days. I got dressed the 2nd day in pjs (capri pants, nursing tank, and a short thin 3/4 sleeve robe) and the next couple of days I wore yoga pants and a tank. Thankfully I didn't have any issues ruining any clothing but I don't like hospital gowns (or gowns in general).
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? I used the hospital blankets
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds. I used the short robe that came with my pj set and after that a hoodie. I was warm most of the time and didn't need either but liked to cover my HUGE boobs (I have a really small chest and was mortified at how big my boobs were when my milk came in) when we had visitors.
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? I bought a new pair of yoga pants and a matching hoodie. It didn't matter but it made me feel good to put on something new.
Clomid M/C 8 weeks 2/08 *IVF #1-DD born 3/09
*Surprise BFP-T18 baby lost at 13w 1/10 *FET #1-DS born 2/11
I left both of mine in a diaper and the hospital provided t-shirts.
Swaddled with the hospital receiving blankets
I put on my own clothes as soon as I could shower, I didn't use a robe but I might this time, I am at least bringing it.
I wore super comfy clothes home but did dress the baby in an outfit specifically for that purpose (not expensive, just cute)
I really like to have visitors in the hospital. It makes the time pass and I found I was kind of still running on adrenaline and didn't sleep well while I was there anyway. Plus that way they won't invade your home LOL
-I kept my kid in the hospital diapers and shirt until it was time to dress her up to go home.
-I stayed in my hospital gown because it was really convenient for breastfeeding. I also wore pajama pants, slippers and a robe with it. This time I might pack some nursing tanks so I have my own shirts if I want to get out of the gowns and into my own clothes. The gowns are nice though because they always have an endless supply of clean ones.
-I definitely recommend a robe. I loved mine at the hospital. You can get a light one if you are worried about sweating a lot.
-We used the hospital swaddle blankets. It was unseasonably cold the day we took her home though so we went down to the gift shop and bought a warm blanket to take her home in.
-I wore pajama pants and a tank top home. It doesn't really matter, unless you want a nicer outfit for pictures at the hospital.
a few questions
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? Left them in diaper and shirt until the day we went home
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? Dressed, I wanted to feel as normal as possible after I had the baby, I don't really like hospitals, so being in my own clothes helped... if you are going to do this, don't bring pj's that you really care about, they will probably get stained.
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? Hospital blanket, brought one blanket for the ride home
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds.- nope, pj's and a sweatshirt was fine if I got cold
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? pj's, I didn't need to look fabulous
Bring some cards, sudoku, or an electronic game... the first time around I didn't have anything and I was board to tears... I learned from then on to bring things to do. I had plenty of visitors, but mostly after work so 9-5 was pretty boring for me! My babies slept, but i've heard that some mom's are very busy with their little ones the whole time... i say it doesn't hurt to be prepared! GL!
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? diaper and shirt. one day i did change her to take pics though.
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? i stayed in the hospital gown.
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? both, but mainly the hospital ones.
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds. no i was afraid i would bleed on my own clothes so i just stayed in the hospital gown.
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? black yoga pants, white tank & a gray zip up hoodie. it mattered for me bc i ended up with an emergency csection so i needed something comfortable that wouldnt hit my incision...im so glad i chose yoga pants to bring!
I think that's all. I have never been at the hospital and had ds actually with me and have visitors and what not, so I have no idea what they do for ds and what I will need and all that. He hung out nekkid in the nicu but he was under the billi lights for jaundice, so no clothes were needed. a binkie if you are going to use them. i also suggest doing the bath class (if your hospital offers one) the morning you leave that way you can have the baby all clean & change them into his/her going home outfit.
I just really have no clue what you do all day with a newborn in the hospital. Just sleep when he sleeps huh? pretty much! you can always send them to the nursery, i didnt take advantage of that the first time around...i wanted LO with me at all times
this time i will be bringing my laptop for sure! but i will be there for 4 or 5 days.

DS stayed ina diaper and a shirt, but who knows this time around. I might get some of the cheap gerber one pc jammies things.
I wore my own jammies
I used the hospital blankets.
I tried ot wear my robe but it was annoying when DS wanted to eat.
I wore home a pair of mat shorts and a tank top.
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? diaper and tiny hospital onesie
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? hospital gown for most of the time (I had a c-section) but I did put on clothes when we had visitors (yoga pants and a nursing tank)
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? hospital. We didn't start swaddling with non-blankets until about 2 weeks after we got home. Rookie mistake...
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds.Yes! There were a lot of people in the hospital and I didn't feel comfortable walking around in just my gown.
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? I think the same clothes I went there in. Yoga pants and a sweatshirt. It didn't matter at all.
do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? I left my boys in their diaper and shirt combo. With all the check-ups and diaper changes, it was just easier. I did bring a cuter hat for DS2 since the one they provided for DS1 was fug.
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? With DS1, I stayed in the hospital gown the whole time. With DS2, I put on yoga pants and a nursing tank with a hoodie after the initial few hours in the mother/baby suite (putting pants on before that would have been dumb since they checked my pad so often). I felt so much more "human" after DS2 and I think the real clothes had a lot to do with it.
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? I just used the hospital ones.
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds. I did use a robe, especially with DS1 when I just wore the hospital gown. I wore it when I walked the halls. Mine was pretty lightweight, but it covered my butt and made me feel less nekkid.
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? I lived in a combo of knit pants/nursing tanks/hoodies.
Definitely sleep when he sleeps. And then just enjoy spending time with just him before you have to go home to "real life." I can't wait to savor the quiet moments with my new baby before I go home and get pulled in a ton of directions.
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? I brought stuff for DD to wear
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? I think my saving grace was bringing my own pjs and being able to take a shower!
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? I just used the hospital blankets
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds. I think I used it once
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? I don't even remember....
DD - February 2011
We used the hospital stuff almost exculsively. The exception was when we took the photos and took him home.
I didn't bring a bathrobe, but this time I am planing on bringing a nursing nightgown that has a bathrobe with it.
I wore home a empire waste dress, but this time I am planning on wearing some maternity yoga pants and a tee shirt. It really didn't matter what I wore.

Things to avoid during pregnancy: Eye contact with cats. Cats will suck the burgeoning life right out of you, using their infamous feline mind-powers. Avert your eyes, and move along.
FACT: 1 in 10 people are said to be a carrier of Listeria. Therefore you should avoid all shopping malls, grocery stores and busy street corners for the duration of your pregnancy. Or microwave anyone you contact until steaming, just to be safe.
Thanks everyone! That helps!!
I doubt I will use the nursery, I don't think I'll have it in me to part with ds. I missed the first 3 days with Alex and have a feeling I'll be a super possessive mama!! Visitors will probably have a hard time getting him out of my arms!! LOL
Again, thank you everyone! I never had a chance to pack a bag with ds, or go into labor, or have a baby at the hospital, this is all SO NEW and scary to me!!
a few questions
-do you dress your kiddo in the hospital or they stay in a diaper and a shirt? used the hospital clothes, only changed her for going home
did you get dressed or did you stay in a hospital gown? I stayed in my gown for the first hours after delivery, then I dressed in my clothes, yoga pants, PJs
did you bring your own swaddles blankets/regular blankets or just swaddled them in the hospital blanket? used the hospital blankets
Did you use a bathrobe at all? The only one I have is super heavy and I remember being a sweaty mess after I had ds. No robe for me
What did you wear home? Did it really matter? I wore a comfy skirt and a mat tee
Yep, and visit with family/friends.
