3rd Trimester

Should I have H stay close today? (TMI-ish)

I woke up this morning with damp underwear.  They weren't soaked, but there was a decent-sized wet spot.  I continue to have a "trickly" sensation and wet spots, but no gushes.  The discharge is clear and doesn't smell like pee.  I have quite a bit of pressure in my butt and I'm really crampy.  I've had a couple contractions, but nothing timeable or regular.

The doctor broke my water each time with my boys pretty far into my labors (except for the leak I had with DS1 at 34w that resealed), so I don't have experience with whether this is amniotic fluid or what.

I have an OB appointment at 11:40, so I'll mention this to my doc then, but I'm wondering if I should give H a head's up to stay in town today.  (He travels within a 2-3 hour radius for work on a daily basis.)

  • I would have him stay nearby today. Let him get some work done and then around noon to head your direction when you go to the OB. If you have an idea that your water broke then your OB should be able to do a strip test to see if that's true. If it is then DH would be nearby to help you.

  • I think it is great you are seeing your dr to find out for sure. This started happening to me at 37w and it was actually discharge plus mass amounts of sweat (ew) that  just started happening.  It sounds like your DH could still go in for a half day after the appt if you get the all-clear, right? I'd feel out what he thinks. I can see it being a fine decision either way. Since you are still early, I hope they see everything nice and sealed up still!
  • I had the same experience this morning! I woke up at 4am because I had to pee. I had slept terrible all night due to lower back pain (not unusual for me though). When I got up I felt that my underwear was wet and panicked. I woke DH and called my mom. Then I called L&D and the nurse said it was probably urine if it wasn't a lot and if I put on a pad and didn't soak it within an hour. I didn't, so feel very dumb for calling and sharing this with everyone if all I did was wet my pants. UGH! I have an ultrasound and doc appointment this afternoon so I'll mention it again then. How embarrassing though! I am nervous that maybe it is a slower leak and isn't obviously my water breaking. Even though I'm only 36 weeks along, I've been on bed rest for pre term labor. You may be having a slow leak and may want your DH to stay near by. My DH is coming to my appointment today, but I did send him off to work this morning. Good luck and I wish you the best!! If you get any answers today let me know. :) Oh the joys of pregnancy!

  • I'd have him stay nearby today. Def ask about it. I thought i was leaking fluid with DS and because I was GBS+ I had to go in to get checked. I ended up having a UTI, but the fluid was clear and didn't smell like pee, but it was.

It's my regular 36w check, but I'll have her do the strip test anyway.  I had something similar happen with DS1 and the fluid was positive for amniotic fluid, but after several hours laying down in the hospital (and just before they started pitocin), the discovered the leak had sealed back up.

  • I'd probably have him stay close. GL!

  • This happened to me yesterday and I was sure it was my water breaking so I went into my midwife and they  did a strip test to check, turns out it was just lots of watery discharge. Either way I felt so much better knowing.
