We just started trying to get pregnant (in November). My in-laws are planning a big family vacation to the U.S. Virgin Islands for next November. They have already booked the place and are wanting to book the flights. I am concerned about being very pregnant at vacation or (hopefully!) having a newborn (if we got pregnant quickly).
So, my questions . . .
- How late in pregnancy is too late to fly/vacation?
- How young is too young to take a baby on a plane/vacation?
Thanks!
Re: TTC and Vacation
A lot can or can not happen in a year. While I understand planning in advance, you have no idea whether or not you'll have to worry about any or either of those.
I think 6 wks is the earliest time recommended to fly with a baby. I don't think I'd take a baby younger than maybe 6 months on a trip like that. To be honest, I wouldn't even do it then.
ETA: Generally I think you can travel by air into your 3rd trimester. However I'd also keep your destination in mind while doing that. Are the hospitals somewhere you'd want to visit/deliver should something happen?

I know generally you can travel into your 3rd trimester, but if you are leaving the country the cutoff is probably sooner. I personally would not want to end up delivering in a foreign country, unless you can afford a hotel for an indefinite time if the baby can not be sent home with you. I would also not want to be on a fun vacation with a less than 6 month old. They won't be able to be at the beach or pool at all or very long, and you will feel stuck in the hotel room while everyone else is doing cool things.
