3rd Trimester

Okay so nothing is TMI right? Vagina question. (long)

I ended up in L&D yesterday due to potential fluid leaking. I have also been having a lot of pain in my labia area, it also feel swollen. So while at L&D I asked the nurse about it while I was filling out paper work and she said it was probably varicose veins but she would look at it.

Fast forward to the exam and she goes to look at it and actually grimaces (not very professional, haha) and said 'yeah, that looks really painful' (well duh, I told her it was).

So at first she said it was a bacterial infection but then she talked to the doctor (the doctor never looked at me) and she said it was a yeast infection and told me to take monistat 3. They never ran a culture on me (I thought they did but I called today and they said they didn't).

I am on day two of the medication and it hurts just as bad as it did, if not worse. I look down there today with a hand mirror and it's swollen and blue and purple...

I am in so much pain and I was wondering if anyone had something simalar happen to them.

Ouch!  I haven't had that situation, but if it's no better two days into a three day med course, I would call in and tell them so.  I hope you feel better!

this.  It's kinda weird the Dr didn't see you though...unless you were seen by an NP.  Still call, and feel better!

  • a friend of mine had this issue and her dr said it was a hemorrhoid.. its odd the dr would give you an rx for something they didnt test for though, you may want to make an appt with your ob to make sure its not something else.
  • That sounds miserable. I feel so badly for you!

I would definetly call again and ask them to please look again.

    Hope it gets better soon!!!

  • I would def call your OB in the morning to see what they say. something just doesn't sound right there.

    This

  • Jenny McCarthy mentioned something very similar to what you're describing in her book Belly Laughs. She called them big blue twinkies or something. I'd look it up for the page number/chapter but I lent it to my friend :(

  • I have been having this off and on for about 3 weeks with varying pain and swelling levels. I find not wearing a panty liner at all and not wearing underwear to bed helps a ton! Also, be sure you aren't using soap, just water and in instances where it was really swollen and I'd get "chapped" I'd use a little bit of nipple cream in the mornings down there (dr. told me to do this). I would also avoid hot water from either baths or showers down there since it increases the blood flow. I've actually used ice packs it hurt so bad and have gotten so swollen I actually had a few paper cut like cracks, so I know what you're talking about. FWIW, I never did have any kind of infection and my dr did take cultures.

Same here. I've even had a bit of (dare I say it??) itchiness/irritation - but my dr. checks and doesn't seem concerned. It wakes me up at night so I am definitely bringing it up again tomorrow.

Ice packs, cold water, no soap - good ideas I'm going to try that. Thanks!

  • I am obviously no dr but it sounds a lot like the varicose veins I have down there.  Holly he!! they hurt!!!  I had my dr look at them bc i was sure I had contracted some weird disease, lol!  I wear a support belt, ditch the panties when appropriate and use ice and tucks pads when it gets bad.  The dr suggested support hose to me which I tried but they were just too much.  Good luck and I would def get a 2nd opinion on the yeast infection diagnosis...are you having any discharge?
