2nd Trimester

So sick :(

I got a cold last week that turned into bronchitis. I have not slept more than 3 hours cumulative in the last 2 days because I cannot stop coughing/wheezing. I can barely keep my eyes open but I can't fall asleep for more than 15 or 30 minutes. My abs and ribs and lungs hurt from the constant coughing. At first I just tried to suffer through it, but eventually I broke out the OTC meds and then yesterday I got out my inhaler, which I hadn't used in years. It's just barely expired by a month but it's not working well so I need to get a new one today. My OB called in antibiotics for me so I just started those, but really their recommendations are just to drink lots of fluids and rest. I'm beyond that point. Now I'm waiting for my regular doctor to open and hoping he can see me ASAP today. Maybe a nebulizer treatment will help. I hate to take all these meds but breathing is pretty high up on my priority list.

  • Take care of yourself and keep up on the meds!  I went to the doctor many times in Sept and Oct...starting with pneumonia that I had to take two rounds of antibiotics for (and use my inhalor (which had also expired!)) and that helped me feel better; however, my breathing got worse and I have having bronchial spasms, so I went back to the doctor and she gave me the choice of trying (all of the following) an oral steroid, an inhaled steroid, a nebulizer treatment four times a day, and not working OR checking into the hospital.  She said if I wasn't breathing better by the next day, she was admitting me to the hospital.  Luckily, those meds helped, but I really needed like 4 days off work, resting, and taking my meds to feel better.  My breathing took much longer to get back to normal, but it did eventually.  (and don't cough too hard, b/c you can crack a rib or separate the rib from the cartilage, which is not fun).  If you can't get into your doc today, go to urgent care of the er...you being able to breathe is important to your baby.  Sorry this is so long-take care of yourself!

Thank you! I just got home from my GP. They had me do 2 nebulizer treatments, he put me on pulmicort, gave me a new inhaler and a narcotic cough medicine that hopefully I won't have to use too much of. Plus he took me off work til Tuesday. I feel 50% better now that I can breathe...hopefully will feel even better after I finally sleep!!
