Walking?

Gracie took her 1st steps almost 2 weeks ago. I guess I thought she would continue to walk more everyday. She really only walks a few steps here and there. It just seems like she would rather crawl. Is this normal?

Re: Walking?

  • I'm pretty sure it's normal. In fact, pretty much everything is "normal" at this point. They do something, regress, then remember they can do it again. Probably Gracie realizes that it's still easier to crawl than walk. Even though she can walk. She'll figure it out again soon, I'm sure.

I thought Sydney would be walking by Christmas. Nope. She won't be by a year either. She *was* taking steps (happily) between all of us. As long as someone was a few feet away, she would walk to them. Not now. She will NOT do it anymore. One of two steps and it's like pulling teeth!

Oh well. They are driving the bus, aren't they?

  • Yes, this is normal. Teagan took her first steps in Sept and was not truely walking til Halloween.  Now she is running. Boy, can she move when she gets the TV remote.  LOL.

They are driving the bus. We all would have carried her around til she was 5 since she is the baby.

  • Could be a girl thing, too. Once C took his first steps, he's constantly walking and only crawls once in a while.

  • For the first couple of weeks after DS took his first steps, he still preferred to crawl. Then he started walking mostly. Now he only crawls when he wants to go really really fast towards something.

  • Fiona took her first unassisted steps on July 4th. I was expecting that was the start of mostly walking, but she continued to crawl for another month. Just a few days after her 1st b-day, she stopped crawling and went to walking.
  • Yes, it takes time to start walking.
