Pelvic pain

I feels like someone is driving a wedge between my pubic bones. Right where my pubic symphesis is. It is the worst in the middle of the night and morning and has been like this for a few weeks now. I tried using a pillow to keep my legs separated at night. This only helps a little bit. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, does a pregnancy pillow instead of a normal pillow make a bigger difference? I don't want to take pain medicine but the pain is becoming excruciating and I am becoming concerned because it is only getting worse and not better. I can't imagine what I will do if it continues to increase until the baby gets here.

Re: Pelvic pain

  • Have you seen a chiropractor? That might help some, and it's at least something to try before painkillers. Good luck!

  • I have not. I guess I didn't see it as being a back problem because it is on the front of my pelvis down near my lady parts. I suppose I can see if an adjustment would help and I am sure it wont hurt things. I also plan on asking my doctor about it at my monthly exam.

  • I have no advice, but the same thing is happening to me except it is an all day thing.  I plan on asking about it at my apt on Thurs.  I'll let you know if I get any good tips.

  • I am having pain on my pubic bone...not necessarily on my lady parts, but above them.  (not sure if this is this the same thing you are describing).  This is baby #4 for me and I do remember feeling this pain previously but I don't remember with which pregnancy.  I have noticed this pain about 2-3 weeks now, and sometimes it's so bad its hard to stand up or walk.  I asked my doc about it.  She suggested a maternity belt for support.  But my belly isn't really really big yet, so i'm not sure how that would work.  I don't own a maternity belt.  I also told her I thought I could tell it got worse after sex.  She said she had patients that would take a tylenol right before having sex to help ease the pain that would come after sex.  I haven't tried anything yet...   If it helps any, I do remember the pain ending immediately after giving birth and realizing how much better if felt not to hurt all the time. :)
  • A chiropractor will definately help with the pain.  An adjustment of the lower back will do wonders to help that area.  You may need to a once or twice a week for a couple of weeks for it to work.  Good luck!

  • Sounds like SPD. Pubic bone is sore and tender, standing on one leg to put on/take off pants hurts like the dickens and walking that resembles more of a waddle are all symptoms. My doc recommends a pregnancy support belt for the support it offers around your hips to keep the bones in alignment. Also, I can get pain killers if the pain is too bad.

  • I'm totally with you ladies.  It's painful (and I'm on my feet all day...not good).  I find that a pillow (fairly big) between my legs at night helps.  My doctor and midwife told me there's nothing that can be done aside from trying to keep your legs together when you get out of bed, out of the car, etc.  And rest.

Let me know if you find anything else that works!
