baby shower

I want to have my shower 6-8 weeks before my due date so I have plenty of time to get things ready and buy anything else I don't get before she gets here. My mom has been really stubborn and keeps saying we should do it right before or after she gets here. This is our first child and I want to be prepared. Is anyone else doing it really close to your due date? I just don't know if i'm being unreasonable wanting to do it earlier.

    I had one at 28 weeks

    I also had one planned for 35 weeks,  I was in labor the day of my shower and it obviously was cancelled. I ended up being induced due to severe pre-e.

    The sooner the better for sure!

    You want time to prepare, know what you still need to purchase yourself and be able to get your thank you cards out!

    Mine were at 35 and 36 weeks...it didn't seem to close to me, we are prepared and ready for LO's arrival!

    I'm having mine 6 weeks before my due date, because I want to clean everything really well before baby comes home. Also, I think nesting has something to do with wanting things to be ready early. Which is fine, and fun! I already have my crib set up and I'm 28 weeks.

    you definitely want some time to prepare -- and to shop for anything you still need but didn't receive at the shower.  for our first child we had the shower at 7 months.  not having one this time around, but we are having a 'meet the baby' or 'sip & see' party after he is born.

    I think 6-8 weeks ahead is good.  What if you go into labor early then your not prepared or maybe haven't got the car seat yet...to many what if's I think

    My last one is six weeks before my due date since it's out of town, and my doctor doesn't want me to travel that far after that. I also have one work shower that isn't scheduled yet, but it'll be small, so I'm not overly concerned about it being later.

    One of my showers is planned for a couple of weeks from now - I'll be past 36 weeks then.

     Another shower is planned for a month or so after the baby is born.

    It had never really bothered me to think of doing it this way... but I must admit, now that things are getting so close, I do wish I was having (had had) it a bit earlier. It'd be nice to buy the stuff we didn't recieve at the shower. But it's totally normal in my family to have the shower(s) very close to or after your due date.

    My showers are planned for 30 weeks, 32 weeks, and 34 weeks.  I am happy with this, I am due March 28th and told my MIL, mother and sister (who are throwing the showers) I'd prefer mid-January at the earliest, end of February at the latest!!  So that worked out perfectly!!
