Chewing on the crib rail

Miller has discovered this delicacy, and I don't know what to do about it!  What, if anything, have you purchased to protect your crib?  I have tried telling him that he won't like those teeth marks on his footboard when he's in high school (since his crib is convertible and we plan on having it a LONG time!).

Re: Chewing on the crib rail

  • They have plastic protectors that snap on the rail or the crib. I think we ahd gotten them at BRU....but DD managed to take these off the rails all the time so we gave up. She eventually got bored with chewing on the railing...it was a short phase. I did try to keep a few thigns in the crib that she could chew on instead.

  • We got some rubber rail guards, but not before Mikey took a few healthy chunks out of his crib.

They take some finessing - have a hard time fitting on fatter rails, ours are thin so DH attached zip ties to keep M from yanking them off - but definitely worth it.

  • We have fabric guards on our crib rails. The rubber ones wouldn't work on our crib.

We also got the rubber cover too. It's great if your LO is teething.

  • My friend had the same problem and she had a someone make her a rail protector. It's kind of like a small crib bumper, but it ties up around the rail. I don't know how safe it is, but that is what worked for her and they didn't have any problems with it.
  • GL - we never got anything but I know there are a few different "protectors" out there.  It was a very short phase for us, but she's going to have chomp marks to look at in high school too :)
  • C hasn't chewed his rails much, but I do have a few soft toys in there that he noms on all the time.   I also don't give him all that much opportunity to do damage.   Maybe try to put him down when he's really sleepy and get him up pretty quickly once he's awake until this beaver phase passes?

  • As far as I remember, we had fabric guard from amazon for Jason.

  • We purchased a fabric crib rail teether from BRU after DD started chomping on her crib.  It worked great.  I think this is the one we got:
