Exercise while BFing?

I BF DS#1 for two months and had to stop due to not producing enough milk. No matter what I did, I just produced less and less until it was completely gone. Crazy. Anyways, I plan to BF DS#2 and hopefully everything will work out so that I can do it for longer this time. Preferably for 6 months at least. So, to my question...Is what I have been told about exercising while BF an old wive's tale or is there some truth to it? I have heard that exercising, such as jogging, running, etc is not good and can diminish supply as well as "sour" the milk. Something about the lactic acid produced during exercise...Anyone know? Also, do you think it would hurt my production worse if I were already struggling with not producing enough milk? Just some thoughts. Thanks!

  • It's an old wives tale.  A great website with answers to alot of these questions is www.kellymom.com  I actually read that some babies like the salty taste that your skin has after excercise.  I have been excercising 2-3 times per week since LO was 8 weeks.  I would just make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and eating enough to keep up.  I am doing weight watchers and it helps me to know that I'm eating enough.  Not sure if you're familiar with the point thing, but nursing moms get 14 additional points on top of what you would normally get.
