Infertility

Baseline was today

Well my ultrasound went well. I have about 15 antral follicles, my lining is where it needs to be, and I don't have any cysts :) Happy Dance!

My blood drawl didn't go as smoothly, it took 2 nurses and 4 sticks :( They ended up having to take it from the top of my hand... OUCH!

I start stims Friday :) I'm doing 225units of Follistim. But that's all. Does that seem odd to any of you? Should I be on more meds, or heavy doses? I've seen several of you that are on 2 and 3 different stims so I just wondered. TIA

  • Yay! I should be starting stims on Sunday so we really are close!

I'll be on Gonal-F and Menopur (375iu Gonal-F and 75iu Menopur) to start out with (then adding in Ganirelix once they get larger). But we already know from my IUI cycles that I need the Menopur to increase my E2 and mature the eggs...I'm not sure if it is common to only be on one med or what...which protocol are you on?

  • great news cutie (sorry about the blood draw though)

meds really depend on person and their specific issues.  i was on 150 gonal f only for my first IVF.  try to not worry and they can alter meds and doses as you stim and have monitoring.

  • That sounds like a great appt!! Sorry about the blood draw issues- ouch!!

I will be on 225 of Follistim and 75 of Menopur. The only reason my RE is adding menopur is because of my previous failed IVFs- she just wants to try something new.

I really hope this is it for both of us! I'm rooting for you, hun!!

  • Thanks ladies!! I just talked to my RN. My blood work came back good!

I also asked about the meds. She said I will just stay on the one med and they will add Menopur only if they see I need it. But they'll keep a watch on it at my monitoring appointments. So that makes me feel better!

Thanks for everything lovies! I appreciate your help and support!

  • sounds like great news, except for your blood draw. ouch!

i was on gonal-f and menopur, but everyone is different and maybe your protocol is different than mine, or your doc thinks you don't need both meds :)

    good luck!

Thanks, sweetie!! Just keep in mind that they never really know how you're going to respond to the meds, so the 225 could definitely fluctuate as you go. I think with my first IVF i was on 300 a day (if memory serves me) and they had to back me off... so it really just depends on how your body decides to react. Luckily they have plenty of time to adjust things if needed!

  • Sounds good!  Sorry about the blood draw -- I've had that happen a few times and it was usually because I was dehydrated.  Try drinking a big glass of water before your next draw -- it made a huge difference with me :)

  • Yay for no cysts and great lining! That is so exciting. As far as the meds, I took menopur and bravelle. I guess it just depends on the RE and what they like to use.

    Good luck to you hun!

  • Yay for good baseline! Boo for bad sticks.

I am starting stims on Sunday, and starting out on 250u of Follistim, that's it. They can always adjust if they need to as they are monitoring you, but from everything I've read I don't think 225u is that unusual. GL to you, hope this is the one!!

  • I'm glad to hear it went well, except for the blood draw! I'm a hand draw too and I've found that the trick is to put a hot pack (they sell them at target for $1), on my way to the appt. I think doing follistim alone sounds normal. I just did gonal by itself for ivf#1. Looking forward to hearing about your next appt!! :)
