Need inspiration for a baby shower - HELP!

I'm throwing a baby shower for my BF and am trying to browse the web for ideas.  The baby's room (girl) is gray and green with some purple.  She likes all of the owl stuff out there, but the baby's room has these airplane/submarine/abstract wall decals so I'm not sure why she seems to want an owl themed shower.  She doesn't want anything pink or too "girly" and they thrive on being untraditional.

So I'm thinking the colors of the shower could be purple & green but I'm not sure how I can squeeze owls into that.  : /

The EF aspect is pretty well taken care of as I have enough party plates/silverware to go around & I'll just bring them home to wash.  Also, making napkins will be super easy as soon as I come up with colors/a theme.

So what would you do?  Look at fabrics for inspiration?  Etsy? Has anybody seen any owl fabrics in the green/purple family?

TIA ladies!

  • Here's a baby shower set that a NCal nestie/bumpie did (she does design work via an etsy shop) that might help give you ideas - I'm sure she could switch up the colors if you liked it. She did a custom design for me for C's birth announcement/holiday card last year that turned out beautifully/just want I wanted.

I don't think you have to overdue a theme - a few well placed items with owls and then using the purple and green color palette for some items (napkins, flowers, favors etc) is enough (imo).

  • Gah - her shop is on vacation!  I did add to my favorites though so I can check back in with her.  I totally agree with you on the theme thing - thank you for pointing that out - that calms me down a bit.  ;)

If you're in a hurry/want info I'd drop her a note even though it says she's on vacation - she's super sweet. I'd tell her you're a NCal bumpie/that I referred you, just for good measure.

And just cause I love it so much here's the link to C's birth announcement on her site.

  • I agree with PP.  Personally, I would do owls on the invite and try to incorporate into the centerpiece possibly or just do it on the napkin and keep with your color scheme for everything else.

If you're going to make napkins, I think fabric for inspiration is a good starting point.  I also usually get inspiration from picking an invitation unless you're going to have one designed.

    What about these?

    Thats really cute!

If you do one of those in a cloth napkin and then do some purple and green flowers for your centerpiece, I think you're set.  Maybe some owl cookies for a favor?

    Here's some more inspiration:

  • just another idea to throw out there...

at one of my showers, the hostess bought some cheap flats/PFs, and washcloths, and wrapped them around the flatware, tied with raffia, so guests used them as napkins.

Or if friend is CDing, the napkins you make might make great wipes later! Esp if you use flannel and minky or OBV.

  • You could do baby sock "flowers" on the centerpieces. If you want the flowers to be purple you can either buy purple socks, or dye some white ones. There are tutorials out there for the sock flowers.

Hang a clothesline with baby items hanging from it, and maybe add some owls there since birds hang out on clotheslines in real life... You would not need a lot of owl items.

I love the napkin idea and that they can be re-used as cloth wipes. That is pretty cool! That is something I had not thought of before.
