I am a new mother to a precious 9 week old little boy. Just though I would tell you all some "helpful tips" that I wish I would have known/done before I had LO.
I went into labor at 36 weeks and didn't feel prepared at all. I am a very organized person and just didn't have everything ready that I wish I would have. There was no "reason" that I went into labor early, LO was just ready to come. He weighed a healthy 6lbs 10oz and didn't have to stay in the NICU. The morning we went to the hospital (bloody show) my DH and I had know idea that we wouldn't be returning home in a couple of hours.
1. With that being said, pack your hospital bags at least by 35 weeks. This is what I actually used in the hospital from home: robe, 2 pairs of pajamas (loose fitting), 2 pairs of socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, hair clips, a couple pairs of panties (I bought cheap ones so I wouldn't ruin my own. I delivered at 5:31p and didn't take a shower till before lunch the following day. So until I took a shower I just wore there dispossable panties), thick long pads with wings (Same here, didn't use these until after I showered), deodorant, flip flops that can be wet to take a shower in, I wore flips flops home because my feet were sooo swollen, camera, video camera, laptop & charger, cell phone chargers, car seat, boppy pillow, an outfit for LO's hospital pictures and a blanket, a coming home outfit (bring NB & 0-3, never know the baby's size for sure), LO a couple pairs of socks, a couple of outfits for LO to just wear in the hospital (bring NB & 0-3, never know the baby's size for sure)
2. At the hospital they will give you pleanty of formula, diapers, wipes, pacifers and receiving blankets, If you need more, just ask because they will give it to you. Everytime they had a shift change, we asked the nurse for extra of all of the above even if we didn't use what we already had we just hid it. That way when we got home we had pre-made bottles which made it really easy at 3am feedings, plus just think of how much your are paying them to be there. There receiving blankets are usually much bigger than those that you buy in the store which makes it easier to swaddle them.
My Must Haves:
1. A dimmer in LO's room- he sleeps in our room in his bassinet, but we take him to his room to change him before we feed him. Having the dimmer doesn't wake him up as much and the bright light isn't in either of our eyes in the middle of the night.
2. Podee Baby Bottle (https://www.podee.com/)- this thing was heaven sent! We bought ours at Babies R Us after he was born, but we only bought the straw parts not the bottle because it will work on any standard size bottle (only works on 6-8oz bottles, not the 4oz ones). This thing was awesome for the night time feedings because we would lay him in his boppy, give him his bottle and then just burp him as needed. Of course we are right there with him, but for some reason I can stay awake easier with him using this instead of me feeding him. It also comes in handy when you are home alone with LO and it's time for him to eat but you have other things you need to be doing. Hands down, best $8 we've ever spent.
3. Boppy Pillow- helps with feedings, tummy time, LO loves laying in it just looking around, we actually would put it in his bassinet after he ate so that he would be sitting more upward incase he would spit up.
4. Swing & Bouncy Seat- LO loves both of these and I can use these to leave him in the bathroom with me when I take a shower
5. If you live in a 2 story house, have a changing table and neccessities downstairs as well as one in LO's room. There is one made into his PNP so it stays downstairs at all times.
6. Wipe Warmer- LO loves it!!
7. Diaper Genie- You don't have to worry about taking care of the stinky diapers after every diaper change.
8. Two carseat bases- we have one in each of our cars and it works out well because we never know which car we will be going in, but it don't matter because we don't have to change the base over
9. Mommy Hook- awesome for the stroller when you are shopping and have tons of bags and the basket at the bottom doesn't hold much in mine because the seat has to be let back all the way because of the carseat
I can't think of anything else right this second but please feel free to ask me any questions about anything (things you need, labor, babies) and I will be more than happy to answer. I know that being a new mommy there is alot to know!
Re: I'm a new mommy, ask me questions
WTF!?!
DO NOT buy this ridiculous, pathetic piece of baby junk. If you are too friggin' lazy to hold your baby's bottle, give the baby up!
It's dangerous, and absolutley lazy. And, on top of the fact that you even USED that product, you let him lay down and use it?
I think you're inflating your ego to come here and post all of this anyway, but to tell us to spend our money on that piece of junk is ridiculous.
I hope NO ONE buys that.
Are you seriously that stupid???? You put the boppy in his bassinet? What happened to that whole "burp him as needed" thing?
You shouldn't even have a child, much less think you are qualified to give advice to anyone else.
This is from a woman who posted about her baby having reflux and choking... no wonder!!!

Damn it Emjay, get out of my head! LOL... No, really, I just looked up those Podee things - in addition to looking like a piece of junk you're not supposed to use those while the baby is laying down!!! Personally, I don't think I'll mind actually holding my baby, since I have arms and all.
Yeah this is becoming a habit with us. LOL. I added a link about her other post right after your quoted my post I think. Not sure if you saw it, but that just makes it all the more unbelievable.

20 months!! How come you haven't posted telling us to ask you questions!
I hate these posts, especially when the advice is so full of fail.
Maybe I should ask anyone if they have questions, I did take a ton of child development classes and work in day care.
SERIOUSLY! If I needed advice about raising babies, why would I ask someone with a 9 week old? Plus, there are plenty of people on the 3rd trimester board who are not first timers. I've seen lots of moms here with 2-3 kids. And it sounds like a lot of this advice is pretty sketchy.
I can think of a million things, but they involve other children.
This is where a sling or other carrier comes in handy. Put the baby in the carrier and give the bottle. Then you have one free arm and the baby is still being held close to you. Even better - nurse the baby in the sling and you can have two free hands. It's magic
Ditto, lol. Most days I still feel like I know nothing about kids and am doing everything wrong. ha!
Braydon 1.23.09
wow. just wow.
ditto on what everyone already said.
moron.
Do I still need to get one of those bottle things if I already rigged up one of those hamster things in the crib? I already put milk in it too so it's ready to go when my baby comes home sometime in the next 6 weeks or so.
Which reminds me... if anyone has any questions about what it's like to be 34 weeks and 3 days pregnant, ask me tomorrow. Pretty sure I'll be an expert by then.
I'm a lurker, with four kids and I wouldn't have the balls to post that I'm an EXPERT on babies.... Especially because as PP mentioned it is full of things NOT to do with your baby. I am so scared for anyone who reads this and takes it seriously.
My Must Haves:
1. A dimmer in LO's room- he sleeps in our room in his bassinet, but we take him to his room to change him before we feed him. Having the dimmer doesn't wake him up as much and the bright light isn't in either of our eyes in the middle of the night.
I will give you credit for this one... we have them in all of our kids rooms and they are quite helpful
It also comes in handy when you are home alone with LO and it's time for him to eat but you have other things you need to be doing. Hands down, best $8 we've ever spent.
PLEASE no one buy this piece of junk, especially for an infant. Your are supposed to hold your baby while feeding him/her to make sure they are positioned properly (you know with being new to the world, they aren't quite used to using their own muscles yet) and as I've mentioned I have 4 kids and can still take the time out of my day to HOLD my baby while feeding them and get done what I need to get done. BABY FIRST
3. Boppy Pillow- helps with feedings, tummy time, LO loves laying in it just looking around, we actually would put it in his bassinet after he ate so that he would be sitting more upward incase he would spit up.
OK freaking our here because right on the label is says NOT to put in your babies crib/bassinet, and again what's wrong with holding your baby after feeding him/her?
4. Swing & Bouncy Seat- LO loves both of these and I can use these to leave him in the bathroom with me when I take a shower
don't need both, but to each his own
5. If you live in a 2 story house, have a changing table and neccessities downstairs as well as one in LO's room. There is one made into his PNP so it stays downstairs at all times.
What, no exercise for the new moms? Are stairs really that bad? The last thing I need is another place for dirty diapers to be.
6. Wipe Warmer- LO loves it!!
again, not needed, but if you must
7. Diaper Genie- You don't have to worry about taking care of the stinky diapers after every diaper change.
man, having a baby is such an inconvenience! I do have one of these, but we have it in the bathroom and use it as the trash can in there. No need to have extra garbage cans around the house.
8. Two carseat bases- we have one in each of our cars and it works out well because we never know which car we will be going in, but it don't matter because we don't have to change the base over
at last a really good tip!
9. Mommy Hook- awesome for the stroller when you are shopping and have tons of bags and the basket at the bottom doesn't hold much in mine because the seat has to be let back all the way because of the carseat
Unless I'm running to a store to pick up something quick, I leave my kids at home. I realize not everyone has a choice, but I don't see going on shopping sprees with my baby.
I can't think of anything else right this second but please feel free to ask me any questions about anything (things you need, labor, babies) and I will be more than happy to answer. I know that being a new mommy there is alot to know!
The question I have for you is why do you feel you are an expert after 9 weeks? I have 4 kids, I'm pretty good, but NOT an expert. You clearly can't even follow the directions on the products you are using, and I'd love to know what your pediatrician thinks of all this.
This is supposed to be advice? Wow. I've only taken care of other people's children and even I know that a lot of what you are saying is bunk.
I'm really hoping this isn't for real, perhaps it was just a test of the emergency idiot broadcasting system.
LMFAO!!!!
There are a lot of really dumb people in this world, Lucy. The problem is, even if her post was 100% MUD, I still feel like she needs to be called out. Why?? For the percentage of people that will think..."Oh hey... that's would make things a lot easier."
There are a lot of parents out there that lack common sense, education or the ability to do something simple like read a package for a warning. Seeing some dumbass on the bump post crap like this can be dangerous to the children of those people.
Most of us can spot bad advice, but you'd be surprised how many can't. You don't think there are people that would absolutely do the things she suggested? You're a fool.
People like this need to be pointed out so others avoid them. MUD or not.
Wow, these boards have changed so much over the years! Back when I was pregnant with DD, we actually looked forward to posts like these because we were first time moms and were willing to take whatever advice we could get. Of course if we saw something posted that was unsafed, we called the OP out on it, but never in this manner. We knew they were not experts, but new mothers trying to share their experiences with others. I just think the type of responses given by some people are ridiculous. We are all grown (for the most part). We should be able to conduct ourselves better than this!
Oh, I don't disagree! I acknowledged stupid people in my post, or at least tried in my last sentence. I just felt the need to say that I think this is most likely MUD as well. The reason that they sell crap like that is because people will buy it. It makes me sick.
This is actually recommended for some babies with reflux issues.

Ha! I think she knew she wasn't supposed to take them, which is why she waited for the nurses to change shifts before she would ask for more. She's obviously a thinker!
