Trying to Get Pregnant

Clomid and risk for ectopic pregnancy

Hi i'm new on here. My hubby and I have been hoping for a baby about the last 6 months, however I haven't had a period since June 23rd... My last BC pill was taken on May 17th (I have a long history anyway of irregular periods, had no period twice for a year). So I went to the doctor today about that, and she suspects PCOS. She also mentioned the possibility that I may need Clomid. Now to get to my question, I read that the risk for an ectopic pregnancy is higher, does anyone know about how much greater the risk is? I couldn't find that. Just hoping to get as much info as I can. Thanks =)

Re: Clomid and risk for ectopic pregnancy

  • That is exactly why it is stressed so much for a woman to be monitored while taking Clomid.  That is a question I'd ask my doctor when you begin taking the drug.

  • I don't remember my doctor mentioning an ectopic pregnancy as a side effect but whatever the case, you should always be monitored. And definitely bring it up with your doctor. GL!

  • From what I researched about Clomid, and what my RE told me, there are not definative studies linking Clomid to etopic pregnancies.

I'm not sure, knowing how Clomid works, how that conclusion could be made. It is a good question to ask your doctor and another reason to make sure you are monitored.

Yes   I was not monitored approperiately during my spout with Clomid. The doctor I'm at now was very angered at this. GL and I hope you come to a decision you're comfortable with.

  • Like Bonita said, I don't actually think ectopics are the biggest issue with Clomid, but it can have other dangerous side effects, and you should have ultrasounds throughout a Clomid cycle to make sure you aren't having a serious reaction to it.

I wouldn't go assuming anything.  Clomid is a drug with side effects.  You should be monitored if you take the drug.  It is vital so that you don't overstimulate your ovaries.  With any medication your doctor prescribes you should ask questions and do research.

  • Thanks everyone, just a little worried about it. I've been hoping it wouldn't come to this, but looking back at my history I'm almost positive somethings not right. Just hoping eventually there will be a healthy baby on the way.
