Trying to Get Pregnant

Already being sent to the RE...

Well tomorrow marks CD 60 of Cycle 2, Month 7 and despite my CH's--I am fairly certain that I did not ovulate.  I called the doctor and she is referring me to the RE for annovulation.  Has anyone been to the RE this soon in the game?  Will I get the same work-up as someone who has been trying for a year even though we know exactly what the issue is?

Re: Already being sent to the RE...

  • I would imagine they'll still do the full work up.  There could be other things working aganist you too.

  • I wouldn't presume to know what the issue is, since anovulation is usually symptomatic of another underlying medical condition, rather than its own specific diagnosis.

Good luck - I hope you get some answers and a good game plan in place soon!

July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

  • My OB typically refers out rather than he doing the HSG, Clomid, Femara or anything along those lines. However, I wasn't ready to see an RE so he gladly ordered an HSG and put me on Femara monitored with blood work. Jan 25 is supposed to be my new RE date. The Femara worked but I know AF is soon to arrive.

  • I just started cycle 5 and we have our first RE appt. Jan. 10th.  This is because there are known issues in my family history.  So, I think given your circumstances, that it sounds right to see the RE.  No harm in the consult and the diagnostics, that is the way I view it.  I just checked with my insurance today to go over the coverage, and I am glad I did because I need a PCP referral not just the OB referral.  So, you may just want to check your insurance. GL, I hope you get your BFP very soon!  Keep us posted.

On my insurance, I don't even see the OB/GYN until I am pregnant or have some other medical need to do so.  I have to see my GP for EVERYTHING and then get referred to a specialist, so I am not comfortable moving with her for anything more than Provera when it comes to TTC, although I do feel it premature for more invasive measures (much like you).

    You are so wise.  Thanks!

  • I was referred to an RE after I think 4 cycles.  If your OB sees an obvious problem there is no reason to have you wait the year.  I'm sure you will get the same testing the RE would give anyone else.  They will want to find out what is causing the annovulation so you will probably get the HSG and bloodwork.  Your only battle might be with the insurance co, but I've had no issues with mine since I was referred.

This exactly. You will/should get a full work up.  I was dx with chronic annovulation and we eventually found out it was due to a pituitary tumor that was realising too much prolactin, which in turn was affecting my period/ovulation. GL!

  • Try to look at it this way...At least you'll be working with a doctor that is educated enough to handle anything that comes your way. They can start "treatment" (if needed) right away instead of you having to do the waiting game wih just a gynocologist. GL try not to stress too much

This.  My OB/GYN was passing out Clomid like it was candy at Halloween, so I felt that I should seek out treatment from an RE on my own.  I think this will be great for you, and will help save you time and headache!  GOOD LUCK!!!!

ETA: Plus, even though this is your second cycle, you've been trying for much longer than 2 months (I think you said 7?), so it probably seems like a shorter period of time than it actually is!
