34/35 weeks.. how much nicu time?

Doc thinks I could go at anytime (although praying they stay in until my 37 week scheduled c/s!) and I'm wondering how much NICU time your 34 or 35 weekers had?

I realize every baby is different and what happened to you could be completely different than what happens to me but just looking for a little info!

Thanks!

Re: 34/35 weeks.. how much nicu time?

  • I delivered my girls at 34w4d and they were both in the NICU on a feed and grow status for 10 days.  They didn't need any breathing assistance, and were able to hold their own body temps in less than 24 hours after birth.  I did have the steroid shot for their lungs at 30 weeks, so I'm not sure how much that contributed to their not having to have any breathing assistance.

  • My boys were delivered at 34 wk 3 days.  They spent 17 days in the NICU- they were just there to learn to suck/swallow/breathe.
  • Baby A: 13 days
    Baby B: 19 days
    Baby C: 16 days

  • My babies arrived at 35w,5days.

They both spent 6 days in the NICU. They had some glucose level issues, and also needed antibiotics. I had an infection/fever upon delivery (turns out they broke my water around Baby A when they tried to remove my cerclage 3 days before I delivered). They didn't realize it because I had a lot of bleeding. Nice, huh?  This is why I didn't want my cerclage removed at the doctor's office. I wanted it done in L and D.

  • Baby A: 6 days

    Baby B: 5 days

They were both mainly getting the eating thing down.  There were some potential concerns of infection in A after birth, but she was cleared in about a day.

  • Mine were born 34w5d. DS2 was 10 days and DS1 was 13.  Neither had the steroid shot.  Both were just growers/feeders.  DS1 would have come home at 10 days, but he crapped blood the night before and earned himself another few days of observation.

  • I was about 4 hours shy of 35 wks.  : )

Both of mine were in the NICU for 14 days as eaters/grows.  They both had two apnea spells that they didn't need any help recovering from but, that bought them both an automatic 10 days each.

  • Delivered at exactly 35 weeks.  Baby A - no NICU, Baby B - 6 days due to fluid in his lungs
  • 35w2d -

Had steroid shots at 27 weeks.  Girls needed no "official" NICU time.  DD with IUGR spent overnight in NICU for "observation," but she was perfect, as was her sister!

  • 35w3d...both babies in for 10 days as "feeder/growers".  They were "pathway" babies which meant since they were feeder/growers, they were allowed to stay in our room until I was discharged and even then I was able to stay in a room as a guest and have them there with me.There was a NICU nurse that would come in for every feeding to monitor vitals and gavage through the feeding tubes if it was necessary.
