Spent Christmas night at the ER (PIP)

Simon got sick with a bad cold/fever on xmas eve, and last night while I was holding him he was crying all of a sudden his eyes rolled back and he went limp and unresponsive.  Coincidentally I had just read a post about febrile seizures on the 12-24 board so I knew exactly what it was...we jumped in the car and drove straight to the ER (only 7 minutes from our house and in a snowstorm it was faster than calling 911).  I held him in my arms the whole way there, didn't dare put him in his carseat in that unconscious state.  SO fvcking scary!  The doctor confirmed it was a febrile seizure even though DH kept telling me it wasn't because Simon didn't shake or jerk his limbs at all.  Not sure how long he lost consciousness for but he was more or less out of it for about 20 minutes (still breathing, looked like he was sleeping really hard).  The doctor said both ears were really red so apparently he's got an ear infection, now we think he's had it the whole 2 weeks since we got back from Canada since he's had a runny/stuffy nose the whole time.  Poor kid!  He never pulled on his ears so we had no clue!  This is his first ear infection.  They gave us antibiotic and send us home, after waiting there for hours (the ER was full of ski injures last night).  Last night he was up crying and sick and now DH and I are sick too...hope everyone else had a better xmas than we did!

  • Oh my gosh! That sounds so scary! Glad Simon is okay now. You are one smart Mama. I am right there with you. I would have done the same thing and held him in the car. Whew. Hope the rest of your week is better. Feel better buddy!

  • Oh bless you...  that was my biggest fear when Liam had a fever of 104.7 a couple weeks ago.  We've both been sick since the week after Thanksgiving.  I hope you all get to feeling better soon!  So sorry you had such a scare!  :(

  • Oh, Lisa!  How scary, and what a sucky way to spend the holiday!  How are you all feeling now?  When Ellie was running her fevers, she would drink the pedialyte in the packets and eat popsicles - messy but she loves them now.   Love the new siggy pic btw - mmmm pancakes!
  • So glad you acted quickly and got him to the ER. Hopefully the infection clears up soon!
