I just got home from 2 days in L&D. I'm about 28 weeks pregnant with twins. Yesterday morning, my doctor told me to be prepared to deliver "at any time". I immediately panicking because, while I know 28 weeks is viable, it's not great. Luckily, things settled down (with the help of lots of IVs and meds). Now I'm home and on procardia to keep the contractions at bay. Seems like the future is so uncertain. I'm just looking for some success stories with similar situations...need to keep my spirits up. Thanks girls!
Re: Pre-term Labor scare...success stories???
My girls were born at 32w3d after being on bedrest for 15 weeks (5 @ home 10 @ hospital). It started w/IC and then PTL at 23 weeks. I was able to get the steroid shots at 2 different times which really helped. My DDs didn't need any assistance but were in the NICU as feeders & growers. They were there for 24/25 days and have been doing great!
Good Luck! If you haven't already...I would talk to your doc about the steroid shots for lung development
When it was discovered I had a shortened cervix at 20 weeks, my doctor told me that she was hoping I at least made it to 28 weeks. I was scared, but was so excited with each extra week further I got. I had some additional scares along the way (PTL at 31 weeks with hospital bedrest until 34 weeks - you can see my history in my siggy). But I made it all the way to 36 weeks 2 days when my water broke. My girls came out healthy with no NICU time. Good luck - I hope you can take it easy at home and make it much farther along into your pregnancy!
Thanks...I did get 2 steroid shots while in the hospital.

I had a ruptured sac and was having regular contractions at 22wk, 5d. I've been in the hospital ever since... so I wouldn't call us a success story yet, but I'm in a much better spot than I was when I was admitted!
I'm wondering why your doctor said that you should be prepared to deliver "at any time." I know some OBs/MFMs don't use tocolytics long-term--for instance, they'll only put you on mag long enough to give you steroid shots. But it sounds like they're at least ok with the long-term use of Procardia.... If your condition became less stable, would they just let you go into labor without trying to stop it again? I can say that I credit my doctors' aggressive treatments with keeping my babies in this long. There are options, and not everyone treats PTL the same way. I'd encourage you to find out what your docs' policy is.
