Hi ladies! My husband and I just started TTC in August 2010. I went for my pap in mid October, and the results came back abnormal. I had a colposcopy done, and it came back CIN II and CIN III, and they recommended I have a LEEP procedure done. I was very upset, especially since I had never had any problems before and we had just started TTC. My Dr. recommended waiting until March 2011 to start trying again. I was just wondering has anyone else had a similar procedure and become pregnant afterwards, and if so how long did you wait? Thanks so much!

Re: TTC after a LEEP
You might get better responses to this question on the 1st tri board. Most of us haven't been pregnant here.
I've had a leep before and my dr. said it wouldn't effect getting pregnant...but once I am pregnant she wants to keep an eye on the thickness of my cervix to make sure it can support the pregnancy.
GL!
Same here!

I had a LEEP and Cone Biopsy in Sept 2009 and was instructed to wait 3 months before TTC. I started TTC in late Dec/early Jan and got pregnant in August of this year. I have bi-weekly cervical checks to make sure my cervix isn't funneling or shortening, but I think that is more because I am having multiples, not because of the LEEP.
The LEEP itself was no big deal. They put me to sleep for it, and I had no complications afterwards. I wasn't allowed to have sex for 8 weeks, to give my cervix time to heal and prevent infection. Having the procedure done is certainly better than the alternative. And if you have clear margins, chances are you won't have issues again.
HTH!
Hi--
I had a cone biopsy in 2008 as well (same concept but a little more invasive than a LEEP)-- the Dr. cut quite a bit of my cervix out, but told me that it probably wouldn't affect my chances of getting pregnant. (Although I'm not pregnant yet, so who knows.) Anyways, the Dr. did say that when I do get pregnant they would want to watch my cervix quite a bit to make sure that it could hold up during the pregnancy.
I have done quite a bit of googling on this subject... I think the two main issues that you may run into w pregnancy/ conception following a LEEP are cervical incompetence (see above) and cervical stenosis-- my understanding of stenosis is that some people get scar tissue which stops the semen from entering the cervix (though if you haven't noticed any changes in your period, this is probably not an issue because if stuff is coming out, you can assume that it can also get in).
Hopefully that makes sense and is helpful.
I had a LEEP procedure done when I was in college.. (about 7 years ago)... I just got a BFP this morning!
My doctor told me that LEEP should not affect getting pregnant. But I also think it depends on how much they have to remove.
I remember how freaked out I was. I had the procedure done in a hospital instead of in the office... Everything was fine after the procedure and I havent had any problems since then. I hope every turns out fine for you.
Good luck to you!!
I had a LEEP done in June of 2003 and started trying in Feb 2005. We conceived in August of 2005. I was put on bedrest for 9 weeks due to a shortened cervix and delivered 1 month early due to preterm labor.
My dr. said that the shortened cervix was due to the LEEP. My DD#2 was born in 2009 but I did not have any problems with shortened cervix at all. She was born at 37 weeks exactly.
I would follow doctor's orders and wait until March but that's just me. Bedrest is not fun.
Good Luck!
I had a LEEP this past November and have been instructed to TTA until I get a clean pap result back in February. As much as I dont want to, Im following doctors orders

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.
I had a leep beginning of Jan 2010 & was told to stop TTC for 6 months. We just got a BFP right before Christmas. I did have a problems with recurrent cervical stenosis after the leep...extremely painful & had to be "opened" up twice - not fun.
Now that I'm pregnant my dr says she's frequently going to check me to make sure my cervix is doing well. She's worried it may not stay closed despite the previous problem with stenosis so she has already prepared me that she'll probably advise I get a cerclage in a few weeks to make sure my cervix has stays closed.
Best of luck
