We just started Josie on rice cereal. A few questions:
1) Did you use the regular one in the box or the one in the canister with DHA & probiotics?
2) It says use warmed up formula or BM--did you? We don't heat up her bottles so I haven't been.
3) The nurse practicioner said use 2T cereal & 2T formula--the can said 1 T cereal and 4-5 T formula the first time. She definitely seems to like it thinner. What ratio did you use when you started?
Re: cereal questions
1) We used the stuff in the box.
2) we used both cold and room temp BM. I didn't see any reason to warm it if she was willing to eat it.
3) We started with the rec on the box but DD "wore" most of it (though seemed to be eatting it fine), do we quickly thickened it. In the end, she prefered it thicker. Cearal is mostly for practice so I would just use whatever she likes and thicken as she tolerates it.
1) Did you use the regular one in the box or the one in the canister with DHA & probiotics? It's in a box, no idea what brand or type (oops?)
2) It says use warmed up formula or BM--did you? We don't heat it up - if he doesn't care, I don't mess with it
3) The nurse practicioner said use 2T cereal & 2T formula--the can said 1 T cereal and 4-5 T formula the first time. She definitely seems to like it thinner. What ratio did you use when you started? My DS2 loves it really thick. I don't measure, I just eyeball it and mix it in a bowl. My DD1 hated all cereals, fruits and veggies until one magic day around 7.5 months when she decided she liked solids.
1) We've used both depending on what's on sale and what coupons I have, but I prefer the one with DHA just since they told us Andrew should have it for brain development :-) That said, I have no idea how much DHA is in the cereal and if it's worth the money.
2) I added BM from the fridge and heated in the microwave. Cold cereal would taste nasty to me but I guess if she likes it cold then it doesn't hurt anything! (We gave Andrew his bottles about room temp or even cold if we were out.)
3) The can recipe was wayyyy too thin for us. It just ran all over his chin. I mixed it to about the consistancy of a puree or applesauce. It still barely drips off a spoon but isn't too thick/clumpy. I think the NP's rec sounds more like it. You can try it and if it's too thin or thick just add a bit more milk or cereal.
