Please shut up!

So, 8years ago I delivered my first child with no epi and have decided to take the same route with this baby. I am only 9 weeks pregnant. My friends don't understand my decision, which is cool with me, but they won't shut up about it. I don't feel comfortable with the needle in my back. I am not against modern medicine and I don't think the physian is going to cripple me, I just don't like the notion. They keep talking like I'm doing something barbaric to myself. It was great being in full control with my daughter's birth and the pain was over quickly.

    I heard this almost nonstop thru my pregnancy as well.  I also went med-free.  it was constant.  I learned to just shut up about it myself and never mention it or even allude to anything.  I wouldn't bring it up unless directly asked.  However, other people felt the need to bring it up in my presence.  For example, if they knew my plans to avoid an epi, they would tell anyone and everyone around about my "crazy" plans and how "insane" I was.  *eyeroll*  I learned then to just shrug it off, ignore it, smile nicely and say, "Yep," and move on.  It wasn't worth getting into a huff over.
     
    In the end, I had the exact experience I wanted, med-free like I planned/hoped, and plan to do the same again with this pregnancy.  No one has mentioned it this time (I guess the fact that I did sucessfully deliver without the amazing and awe-inspiring, life saving epidural kind of "showed" them?  Whatever, I'm not being snooty or snarky, just saying - no one has mentioned a thing about how crazy I am this time...).  Just let it roll off your back.  And good luck!

    When my dh told his grandmother we were having a natural birth she offered to pay for the epidural. "If you guys can't afford it we'll pay for it." haha! I thought it was so funny. She is a sweetheart!
