? about traveling 2 LOs in cribs

I just can't fathom how do you travel with 2 LOs!

Andrew already has a hard time traveling to my inlaws (read post below) and I just can't imagine doing it with another.  They have a small house (read not a lot of places to sleep and sound carries).  Yikes.  I can't sleep at all with a baby in our room because I'm a light sleeper and babies are loud sleepers.

Maybe by the time we're ready to travel with LO#2, Andrew will be in a big boy bed.  But then, they only have one extra bed and it's not babyproofed at all.  Or would he sleep on the floor in a "bed" in our room?  Would he even understand what's going on?  At what point can we explain "this is your bed" LOL.

The thought of it makes my head spin.  If you have 2 small kids and you travel, tell me logistically, how do you do it?  Or are you just up all night? Stick out tongue

  • Patiently waits to hear answers...

I'm still trying to fathom how you leave the house to go to the grocery store, let alone travel!

  • Combination of cribs and/or pack-and-plays.   We've only stayed at each of our parents house - and they each have a crib, and then we bring a pack n play for #2.

My older DD is probably over the PNP weight limit, but for a couple nights, it works.   If I was someplace without a crib, I would use 2 PNPs.

I have not stayed overnight at a hotel though...that thought terrifies me.  Ha.   And I try to operate under the 'don't worry about how to handle situations until they are right around the corner'.

*I do travel with my sound machines to give my kids something familiar/comforting at bedtime

  • My parents have a crib and he sleeps great there, but I don't think it's the crib, I think it's b/c he's used to being there.

My inlaws do not have a crib. I feel like Andrew will be too long for a PNP soon! Eep.

Ha!  I worried about this too - I was terrified to be alone with the 2 of them at first, but its nothing like I imagined.   You will be fine  Smile

Seriously!  My toes are dangling over the edge at the moment.  The logistics of feeding a baby with a toddler, leaving the house, bed time, etc. completely boggle my mind!

  • We have a crib at both my parents' and my inlaws house.  In the rooms with the cribs, at the inlaws there is a queen bed shoved up against the wall, and at mom and dad's, we have a full sized bed with a bed rail on one side.

Our system is that the parent who has had the least amount of sleep lately(usually me), gets to sleep alone in the other guest room(heaven), while the other one sleeps in the room with both boys.  That way, at least someone gets some sleep.

J now sleeps through E waking up twice a night.  We just had a good conversation that went, "E is probably going to cry tonight a couple of times.  It's ok.  He just needs a bottle.  Mommy will get out of bed with you and will give him a bottle, but we will both come back right after, so you don't need to get up."  I was surprised, but it totally worked!  I think he just LOVES sleeping in bed with one of us.

Last night he was ALL.OVER.THE.PLACE.  OMG, so excited that I get three nights off, lol!  He kicked me to death.

At hotels, we usually take the bedrail with us, and get a room with two double beds.  The lucky one gets to sleep with the baby (who doesn't move yet, but that day is coming) and the loser gets to sleep with the kicking toddler and the bedrail.  And yes, he has fallen out a couple of times, despite the bedrail.  Once I caught him by the ankle mid-fall.  :-)

  • Oh, and I forgot to add that when E was very little, we traveled with his little sleep chair/bouncy thingie.  I don't trust hotel cribs, but that's just me.  I'd rather just cosleep than try to not worry about a baby in a strange crib.

AAANNNNDDD....to answer your other post (sorry I'm only on here for a sec before jumping in the car for a roadtrip)...

The answer is YES.  J goes nuts at strange places, and loves new people.  He doesn't eat well (we keep snacks and try our best to get them in him), he doesn't drink his milk, and he doesn't sleep.

The only upside is that after not napping all day, he usually sleeps all night!  I just let him get worn out and deal with the tantrums/meltdowns as they come.  Our fam also have little ones, so they understand.

One thing that has saved us is that J used to get HORRIBLE constipation after long roadtrips from being in the carseat so long and from not eating/drinking enough.  I have started traveling with culturelle, gummy vitamins, and those gummy fiber supplements to keep him more regular.  It has been GREAT these last few times.  Oh, and we also use my parents' humidifier, which has really cut down on the allergy funk the boys have always gotten at their house.

Don't freak out!  It's totally do-able.  The best part is that there are usually other people there to take the kids for an hour or so if you need to nap a little during the day.  Take them up on any offers of help!

  • For our trip at easter we're taking the PNP and the Newborn rocker.  Newborn rockers are on clearance at Target, btw. I hope they aren't discontinuing them.

lol that's not a bad way to do it - just alternate sharing the pain :-)

    Thanks!

This is Andrew.  he wont poop sitting down and also it doesn't help that he isn't eating/drinking much.  Good idea though!
