I'm on day 4 of a incredibly uncomfortable yeast infection. I finally went to the pharmacy last night, but the pharmacist said not to take anything over the counter before I talk to my doc as I'm due so soon (thurs) and the baby shouldn't come into contact with the meds. However my doc's office is closed until tomorrow, ut with having a scheduled appointment already for wed, I doubt they will fit me in earlier. Eating a ton of yogurt has been doing nothing, and the only thing that helps (being in the shower) isn't a solution when I've got a 2 YO to run after all day.
What did your doc say to do? Anyone got a safe at home remedy to share? I think I'm going to go crazy!
Re: HELP: 39 weeks and a yeast infection! I'm going crazy!
Agreed.
I've waited so long as it is so dry here in Alberta my whole body has been itchy, and I didn't even realize it was a yeast infection until yesterday. But I should have thought of the on-call doc.
I seemed to keep a yeast infection with my last pregnancy.. This pregnancy i started getting them at about 29 weeks!! My OB put the on a 7 day cream.. Then I went out and got some probiotics and hav been taking them ever since and I havent had a problem! (knock on wood)
Get you some good pro-biotics but also see your doc so you can get this one cleared up before baby comes!
Take a warm bath with a big scoop/cupful/few shakes of the box of baking soda. You will feel better almost immediately. Repeat that until it's gone. It's safe for you, for baby, and it's cheap.
I've been doing this for years after a GYN suggested it. I haven't needed to take any OTC or RX meds for a YI sinc I started doing this at the first sign of itchies.
GL! Hope you feel better soon.
Dang. I knew something seemed strange about putting Jello Pudding in my vag.
It's YOGURT in the vag. Should have known better.
hahhahah. Duh, your supposed to use gogurt, why do you think it's in that tube? Easy application.
I'm sorry you are miserable. Yeast infections are incredibly common during pregnancy.
I'm not sure what the big fuss and "gross" comments are all about? It was the holidays. Sometimes it takes awhile to realize what's going on.
Natural remedies DO include eating yogurt. I've also seen it recommended to use plain, unsweetened yogurt as a cream for your vagina. Gentian violet has long been recommended, but it turns everything purple and might not be as safe as was once thought.
Witch hazel soaked cotton balls may relieve itching. A hot bath, as hot as you can make it, along with half a box of baking soda will help reset the Ph in your vagina, but with an infection as far along as yours, it probably will only provide temporary relief. I've also heard that a cup of apple cider vinegar instead of the baking soda will do the same thing. DO NOT scratch ... you'll irritate the skin which will make it worse. Wear cotton underpants and change them if they are damp at all. Avoid eating sugar and drink a lot of water.
I'd call the on call doc and see if they will let you take a three day OTC cream ... if it's not resolved by the time the baby arrives, she may develop oral thrush from passing through the birth canal. That is easily treated after she arrives.
Don't let these girls make you feel bad about something you have really no control over.
