Anyone else's toddler do this? Maybe all toddlers do this to some extent I don't know.
Andrew seems like he goes on brain overload in new places. Like if we go to my in-laws we leave at his nap time (so we arrive around 3:00) to give him time to stretch/play after riding in the car before bed, but the entire first day we're there he won't eat. He used to lay down there no problem at bed but it seems like now he's freaking out in a new place. Generally that results in us realizing he's starving (read: not eaten anything since breakfast) and he'll eat 2 granola bars and last time we just let him cry and he fell asleep in like a minute. Then he'll STTN no problem.
Or like a couple of weeks ago we went out to eat to a place with lots of lights, fans, and tiled floor with pathways to explore. He was really fussy in his chair, I brought him hungry so he'd have interest in eating, but only ate about 5 goldfish and was just so fussy. We got home he devoured 2 granola bars again.
Maybe it's just because he isn't in new places that often? I mean I run errands with him (he's still intrigued by the grocery and is so well behaved because he loves it) and take him to friend's houses and TOTS and he does fine.
I'm not sure what I can do to make things easier, especially the traveling. Of course eating is a challenge for him at home, but when we're gone it's just effing impossible.
He does pretty well at my parent's house, will lay down there happy at night, will eat a little better, .but we go over there every week or so.
Re: ? for toddlers who go wild in new places
haha yeah! Once he's asleep he's fine, and until now he had no trouble with either but now he's more aware
It makes me hate traveling and want to just stay home. By the same token the more you travel probably the more they get used to it (?) so it's a trade off :-) lol
Oh well. I'm hoping by the time we can travel again he'll be better. LOL.
I was just curious what others experiences were and how they made the situation better, if that's even possible.
