Kindle vs Nook?

Anyone have either?  I think it has been discussed here before, but I couldn't find the post.

DH got me the Kindle for Christmas and I love it, but before I got to committed to it, I wanted to learn a little more.  I didn't know if one had more benefits than the other.  I have read a bunch of online reviews, but would love to here the opinions of you lovely ladies :)

Re: Kindle vs Nook?

  • I have the Nook and I love love love it!!!  It's very easy to operate and easy to download books.  And they also have it in color.  You don't have to be in B&N to download books and they have plenty of free books.  You can download books from the library that are free too.

I heard similar things about the Kindle as well though.   Hope that helps.

  • I just got a Nook for Christmas, and didn't know much about them, as most people I know have Kindles.  One big advantage I have found is that you can rent ebooks from your local library on the Nook, which you cannot do on the Kindle.  There are still free books for the Nook, (similar to the Kindle, and they are all similar prices)and if you go in Barnes and Noble, you can start reading any of the books on your Nook for free while you're in the store.
  • This is my post from TTGP the other day....it's long :o)

    ______________

I have a Kindle and LOVE it. DH got is as a money saver since I read so much and most books are $20 a pop and our local library isn't very good on newish books.

I like the Kindle better because it has a MASSIVE amount of memory vs the Nook that has memory cards and lower memory. At first I thought that the memory cards would be cool but then if you lose them, it's a pain to upload them all again and you have to buy a new one to replace the old one.

I love how Kindle is linked to Amazon. They are super fast with shipping and problems...not that I have had any yet but from other people who have dropped or broke theirs they got replacements the next day. Even if you have a problem with a Nook...if they aren't going to give you a new one they will have to ship it somewhere to fix it.  Kindles and Nooks both have the anit glare thing so it's easy to read in the sun.

As far as color...when I first started looking at them before they came out with color I thought that would be really important to me....but it's not. I don't read magazines  unless I'm traveling so if you're thinking of buying something just because it has color eh...not a good deal breaker. You buy a e-reader for mainly books and newpapers which are black and white anyway! Save the extra money and buy books on your new Kindle or Nook. But I'm a Kindle girl all.the.way.

  • I love my Nook! My sister has a Kindle and she is jealous of my Nook. Two big features that I like about the Nook is that you can bring it to any Barnes and Noble to have it repaired, (with Kindle you have to mail it to amazon and wait for it to be returned.) And also, you can read for free for 3 hours eveyday at any Barnes and Nobel. If you do go with the Nook, so not bother with the color one, it is not backlit.

  • I got the kindle bc of the memory as pp mentioned. The kindle is amazing! I love amazon and actually prefer the keyboard on the kindle compared to touchscreen on nook. The only thing that I liked better about nook was the sharing feature but kindle should have that soon. And if you do get nook, I have also heard don't get the color bc the battery life is very short.

  • I received a Nook for Christmas so I didn't do the comparison stuff. I will say check with your local libraries. For example, mine will be offering ebooks the beginning of 2011 for the Nook, but not the Kindle.

  • Love my Nook.  Simply put, I bought my Nook over the Kindle because it wasn't exclusive.  Kindles you have to buy from Amazon.  Nooks you can buy an e-book from anywhere INCLUDING Amazon.  I get most of my ebooks from the public library anyway.  awesome feature.  I did like the Kindle weight though.
