Anyone here on Weight Watchers?

I'm wanting to start Weight Watchers but I'm not sure how easy it will be with my crazy life. Did you find it easy/hard to follow? Can you tell me a little bit about it?

TIA!

Re: Anyone here on Weight Watchers?

  • I did it before I got pregnant I loved it but after about 6 months I was tired of it I lost alot and it is easy. My mom and I did it together and that helps to know someone to do it with. She is still doing it and has lost 40 lbs but they just changed the program and I dint know how much she likes it now. Sorry I know that probably didn't help much but I will probably go back on after I'm done bf'ing.

  • i LOVE weight watchers...not sure if i would do it if i was BFing or pumping cause i tend to be lazy and just eat the frozen meals, and progresso soups (high in sodium). I plan on going on a modified WW soon. I never signed up officially or have never been to any meetings but i had all the info.

the food gets expensive, but i think its worth it.  I know i do best on low calorie, low carb diets...

  • My  mom is a lifetime member and swears by it, she has tried all kinds of diets but WW is the only one that worked for her, becuase like they say in the commercials, its really not a diet its a lifestyle.

I did it for a few months pre-pregnancy and it really did work. I am so bad about staying on track with things, so I started getting lazy and not going to the weigh ins and stopped counting points which is the whole way the program works, so once you dont follow it, it stops working.

You dont have to buy special food, unless you want specific WW treats (muffins, cookies, etc) and they aren't more expensive then regular boxes of treats. They do still have the regular program they had 20 years ago where you count points, they also have a few other programs to choose from. I did the points one and if I would have stayed on track with it I would have had greater success.

You can also do it online now which I found helpful and only went to the weigh ins at the physical location.

  • I have done it a few times and have always lost a good amount.  I was doing it up until I got pregnant this time.  I lost 47 pounds in 6 months.  It was AWESOME!  I plan to go back to WW after the babies are born.  You can do WW while nursing, you get a bunch of extra points for nursing.    I was surprised to learn when I started WW this last time that I was not eating ENOUGH!  I started eating more to make sure I was getting all my points in and started losing weight!  Love that idea! hahaha  I lost every single week for the 6 months except for the 2 weeks I intentionally blew it! ;)  I don't know all the details of the new program but my friend is on it and she said she likes the changes.  All I know is that all fruits and veggies are free now (used to only be veggies and not starchy ones) and the points are calculated differently now.  I'm a firm believer in WW, it works!

  • Yep!

I did WW pre pregnancy and LOVED it.  I don't know why someone would say that the food gets expensive...the best part about it is that you buy regular food.  You don't need to buy the WW brands..for the most part, I don't.

I did it while I was mostly BF also.  You get extra points and it's safe- I definitely had enough to eat and it didn't affect my supply.

I took a break the last 5 weeks or so because they totallly changed their program (they now have you count proteins and made some other modifications), and I haven't had time to get my head into it w/ the holidays.  My friend's Aunt is a leader whose been on maintenance for years and she lost 5 lbs the first few weeks with the new program.  My sister is on it now and she says it's awesome.  I plan on starting next week when the dust settles around here.

  • I am rejoining next week and am excited to see the slightly new program.  I joined WW for the first time in 2007 before my wedding and lost 50lbs!  It was the first time that I lost that much weight.  It just focuses on changing your eating habits and eating healthy.  I love the program and found it easy while I was home on maternity leave.  I hope I can get back into the swing of it!  I figure I want to focus on eating better and then add in exercise!
  • I am! I tried to do it not long after the babies were born online, but I didn't stick to it.  I signed up again in October and I go to the meetings once a week and weigh in.  I've lost 19 pounds so far and I have 12 pounds left:)  I like it b/c you can choose what you want to eat, you just have to count your points.  They just revamped the program a few weeks ago too so now you can have 49 extra points a week to use also! Some people do well with it online but I needed the accountiblility so that's why I go to the meetings! Good luck!

  • I loved it and only stopped because I got pregnant with the boys!  With the move and all the drama in my life I haven't started it back up yet, but on Monday I will because we are doing a biggest loser club at work. I loved it because I didn't have to go through the trouble of preparing specific meals. I could eat pretty much what everyone else was eating with some minor adjustments.  I am definitely going to stick to it just because I am too exhausted to exercise between work and the kids not sleeping at night.  I did the online and the meetings before but now I am just going to do the online thing.

  • Ditto the PPs.  I love WW.  I've been off and on program since 2005 and I've lost upwards of 35 lbs.  It's an easy plan to follow (IMHO) because you don't need any special food.  You just learn healthy eating habits using regular food.  It's a lot easier to maintain in the long run because you're not restricted by food, but by portion size.  You can still go out for a date night meal with DH and eat what you want, you just have to account for it and make sure you have enough points for the meal.

The only issue I ever had with it is the WW dependence on "diet" foods like Diet Coke, low fat/reduced fat cheese, reduced fat crackers, etc.  You do get more food for the points values, but (again, IMHO) it's worth it to learn how to eat less cheese than have to eat the crappy low fat cheese.

If you decide to go to WW (or even if you don't, because the food is delicious anyway), I'd check out Gina's Weight Watchers Recipes.  DH and I have been eating her food for years and she's never put up a bad recipe.  Plus she includes all the nutritional information in case you don't do WW.   We're particular fans of her Potato-Leek Soup and Western Omelette Potato Skins.
