I have been on 150mg dose of clomid with no ovulation. Today at my RE appt we discussed taking clomid and metformin (which I have never taken before) to help me ovulate because that is my main problem. Has anyone had success with this? I am still trying to decide if we should take these drugs and use OPK like we have before or take these drugs and get monitored to see if they are being accepted by my body and go with IUI, thinking it could have higher success rate than if we just used OPK kits? Any advice is appreciated.
Re: Clomid + Metformin= test or IUI
I was on Metformin but it made me so incredibly sick I stopped taking it. After a year and a half of getting sick every single time I ate, regardless of what I ate, I decided enough was enough. A few months after stopping it, I did get pregnant but had an early m/c.
You ABSOLUTELY should be monitored if you are on any IF meds...you are being monitored on your Clomid cycles, right? Baseline ultrasound and blood work? Monitoring blood work and ultrasound a few days after starting the meds and then leading up until your ovulation? Right?
IF meds are serious meds and can cause a lot of problems...they should not be taken without proper monitoring by a doctor. It shouldn't even be an option to not do the monitoring..
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
This cannot be stressed enough! Cysts, lining issues, number of follies, etc, etc. Monitoring should absolutely be standard protocol.

Yikes. I hope you don't have any lasting problems from the Clomid...residual cysts, thinned lining..Clomid is nasty stuff and can do a lot of harm.
So, in truth, you don't really know that you aren't ovulating on Clomid since you were never monitored...you may have a cyst from your first month of the meds, which could keep you from ovulating in the future...and, if you were just using OPKs to check for ovulation, those aren't really accurate once you start fertility meds. So you may have ovulated early or late and just didn't know it because of the meds. My first cycle of Clomid I ovulated before my first monitoring appointment, which was on CD9.
