Hi everyone I don't podt on here often but I had a question about RSV and thought maybe someone on here could help.

My nephew is in the hospital with RSV (he is 2 months old) we were with him all night christmas eve.  How long should I be watching for signs of RSV since my son was exposed and what all should i be looking for?

I have a call into the doctor but thought maybe one of you could help ease my mind until I hear back from them.

    My DD had RSV when she was two months. She had a really mild case. Runny nose and really fussy. She also had a rash at the very beginning. I know it can be a lot worse than what I am describing, but that is just what I.experienced. how sad for your nephew :( hope he leaves the hospital soon.

    we spent the day in the ER yesterday to find out that DD has it.  and she hasn't even been around any other children.  dr said it has the same incubation period as any other virus 3+ days...just keep an eye on him for a lot of mucous/snot and a wet cough.  P never even really ran a fever...she was just the sickest that she has ever been.

    Thanks I wasn't sure how long after exposure he could contract it. I am a worry wart! He has not shown any symptoms so far but,i just found out tonight that my nephew had it.

    I am so sorry that you have to deal with this. My preemie was in the hospital with RSV and it is scary to deal with. I would watch out for some of  the symptoms and take the baby to the doctor at first sign of symptons or at least call them. Another thing is that I believe my doctor said we we had like a 72 hour window to get it? Still kinda confused, but no one else got it, not even the little girl I watch. Again, sorry your nephew has it and I hope he is okay soon.

    I googled RSV and thebump and got to this message. I'm curious what others are saying because my newborn just started showing symptoms three days ago. He's on a nebulizer that's working well so far.

    You're contagious for up to 8 days based on everything I've read so far and if it's an infant or someone with a weak immune system, then they could be contagious up to 4 weeks. Google " sedgwick rsv " for a well-written fact sheet.

     BTW, Baby 411 differs slightly and says that an infant is only contagious for 3 weeks. GL!
