Trying to Get Pregnant

Seriously going to tear my skin off...

I have been beyond itchy since the cold weather rolled in. I woke up from a nap earlier and my right hand is so itchy all over I want to just rip the skin off of it. I did laundry today and noticed a few splotches of blood in the ankle area of one of the legs, and looked down to find a matching scab. It gets especially bad at night. I have changed hand soap to a moisturizing one with shea butter, I am using Aveeno body wash for sensitive skin with oatmeal in it, I have been lotioning up non stop... and I am about to finish off a tube of anti-itch cream.

Thinking I may just need to pay a visit to the dermatologist... UGH!

  • I have really bad dry skin and this winter has been especially bad. I ended up at the dermatologist for the same thing- my skin is cracking and bleeding near my ankles! Hope yours feels better soon!

  • You need to step up your game beyond normal lotions to a salve/balm... one of my favorites is by 100% Pure but basically something heavy in the Vitamin E/Shea Butter department is what you need.

  • Ugh, I'm so sorry!  Have you tried Gold Bond lotion?  I heard it was good for itchy, winter skin.  GL!

  • Thanks Kathy! This year is definitely way worse than ever! Do you have any over the counter recommendations you can share? I'm at the point where I'm seriously thinking about a daily regimen of Benadryl...

  • Hmmm, your other posts didn't appear until after I posted my reply! I haven't tried Gold Bond yet, and I will definitely check out something heave in Vitamin E/Shea butter as well, thanks for the recommendations!

(I don't know why it is categorized under "Facial Serums" but it is most definitely my go-to product for super dry skin on my hands, elbows, ankles, etc.  It's not cheap ($25) but it's super-high quality, and you only need to use a tiny bit at a time.

I agree with Ardvark- the thicker the lotion, the better. My dermatologist recommended Aquaphor. I really like Lay it on Thick from Bath and Body Works.

  • Oooh, never thought about Aquaphor!!! Thanks!

  • I'm sorry you're doing through this- I know how much it sucks.  I find Aquaphor Ointment very helpful.  It's thick and nasty, but it does the job.  I sometimes slather it on at night and sacrifice the sheets, and during the day I spot treat. GL!
  • I have really dry skin year-round but during the winter it gets so dry that it cracks and bleeds. I've been pretty good with keeping to a strict moisturizing routine this year so it hasn't been so bad but man I feel your pain! Feel better.

  • Have you tried putting on a thick layer of lotion then throwing on a clean pair of socks? I do this before bed when my skin is really dry (I have gloves for my hands too) and it really helps.  Plus, having socks on while you sleep might prevent you from scratching during the night.

I also use neosporin on small super-dry patches durng the day.

  • I use baby oil gel. I leave it in the shower and use it immediately after I towel off. Be careful and not to slip

  • I really like using natural oils. I have a couple that I go to - Avocado Oil for my whole body and then a blend of 7 oils for my face. I know it sounds nasty to put oil on, especially the face, but I've been receiving the best compliments on my skin lately!
