Heat of TX w/ SungRide 35 Laguna Bay

I'm starting to think we chose the wrong seat for our gift registry. All of the reviews say it's warm and babies sweat so much in it. We live in Texas. Baby will be 0-3 months during the hottest months of the year - June, July and August. September is also really hot and hopefully it starts to cool off in October and November. Anyone else run into this problem? If so, did you choose another seat? Which one?

  • We have a Graco Platinum and DS definitely was sweaty in it a few times.  I think that is the case with any carseat.  They have all that foam and plastic to make it safe and that stuff just doesn't breathe that well.  Just try to keep the car cool, don't leave the carseat in the sun to bake and don't overdress LO.

  • We have had 3 different infant seats, and my kids have been sweating in all of them. Even now DD is often sweaty on her back in her convertible.

  • I was wondering the same thing since I'd read the same reviews. When I looked at in the store a lot of the surrounding fabric was a dark gray velour....would that make the seat warmer? Maybe someone who knows more about fabric can help.

  • we picked the Graco 35 in the Racer print/ fabric.  No fuzzy fabric on it with the exception of the removable head supports. I live in Denver and we've got too much sun to risk a sweaty unhappy baby.  If you look at the Graco website they have another one that doesn't have the fuzzy fabric too, i can't rememebr the name of it.
  • We looked at that car seat in the store and ruled it out b/c the fabrics would make it really hot and sweaty- I don't know why they designed it that way.  Even here in New England I wouldn't use it b/c its so hot in the summer.  I would choose another one, especially if your baby will be in  hot environment like TX.  We chose the Chicco, but Graco makes a few others with better fabrics.  Good luck!

Ditto.  I totally loved the colors & pattern of the Laguna Bay, but the fabric looked like it would be way too hot -- even for our Michigan baby.

  • I read the same thing about Laguna Bay - it seemed fleecy or something.  We went with the Racer pattern, which is a bit lighter but I'm sure just as hot.  I'm in FW, too.  Our plan is to get him in and out of the car as quickly as possible.  I know how miserable I AM in those months.  I hate TX summers.
