anyone on here make their own baby food? I got a beaba babycooker from family as a gift and plan on making some pureed food this week to freeze. What foods did you make first? Any fruits or veggies to stay away from making her right now? I thought my friend said something about avoiding carrots because they have nitrates in them??

Re: making own baby food
Carrots are fine, but don't use the water you steam them with to thin them. Apparently, that is what makes the nitrates too high. I don't have a cooker, but have been steaming and making ice cubes of food. So far we have made sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and carrots. Our pedi recommended starting with orange and yellow veggies. All have been a hit. This week we'll try bananas and peas. Yum! This seems to be the site most folks refer to and I have found it very helpful:

I have the same cooker and I love it! I have been making food for my baby since she was 6 months old. I started out with fresh peas during spring and am no onto making actual little baby recipes with Quinoa!
It is so simple to do and I feel really good about making fresh food for her. I make a few batches of food and keep some fresh for 3 days and freeze the rest. I bought a few cookbooks off Amazon, there are a lot of options. I really like this book

I second the website, wholesomebabyfoods.com. I get a lot of recipes from there.
Also, like PP said about using the water from the carrots, just use other water when thinning it out.
These are the fruits and veggies we've tried so far that he's liked - green beans, peas, carrots, squash, a veggie combo (peas, carrots, zucchini and potatoes), sweet potatoes, apples, pears, peaches.
Really the only things that he didn't like were the avocados and the bananas (which made him really constipated).
