White noise machines

I can't decide if Maya is more likely to be disturbed by the baby or the other way around and it just occured to me that maybe I should learn about white noise machines.

Which one do you have?  Do you use it for naps and overnight?  If you have 2 kids, do you have one for both kids?

Re: White noise machines

  • I was wondering about this too. Thanks for posting!

Right now if we have a party (really loud) we run a fan outside Andrew's door just in case - it's pretty loud and blocks all noise.  But he hasn't woken up from outside noise before, but his room shares a wall with the baby's room.

  • We use the Homedics Lullabye Sound Spa machine that you can buy at BB&B.

The projector still works (but no longer spins), so it doubles as a sound machine / night light.  Perfect for going in to check on T before I go to bed.  We use it every night and for naps.  We even travel with it.  We will definitely be buying a second one for this baby.

  • We have the homedics sound spa (aka baby crack machine).  We play it for naps and bedtime. They sell it at Buy buy baby, target, etc.
We also use the projection every night as a nightlight.

edit: ditto the above. We travel with ours (it's little) and we will get another for the next baby.

Ditto.  It definitely helps to block out noise.

  • We have a similar one but it was DH's alarm clock from college.  It definitely helps.  We have used it from when she was an itty bitty, so she's kind of addicted to it which means we have to take it with us any time we stay the night somewhere.  It has been difficult if we forget it at home.

We bought our BIL/SIL one (Homedics sound spa) for their baby due in February because it has helped us so much.  We used a coupon for Bed, Bath, and Beyond so got it for $16.  Pretty cheap and soooooooo helpful!  We'll get another for baby #2 someday.

  • We have this one.  I looked at the lullaby one, but couldn't find it in town and was too desperate to wit for shipping. Stick out tongue Isabella was a very light sleeper.  She sleeps like a champ now, and I know I should probably start to wean her off of it but she sleeps so well with it.

  • We've got the Homedics one as well. Our boys share a room and we have pass-through vents in the floor for heat. Our house is also 130 years old - so there's lots of noise. The boys love it and it helps block out the extraneous noise during nap times and bedtime. Sara ;)

  • I have white noise machines in each room - the Homedics Soundspa one.   Also, each one of them has a humidifier in their room that runs frequently (2 kids + daycare = constant colds).

Sometimes, it sounds like there is a tornado inside my DD1's room, but I figure it's better that way.

Same here.....we love it.  It's more about blocking out the other noises for us because DS will nap fine at the sitters without one and and if we go to my dad's he naps fine without it but we do use it for naps, bedtime, and we go to the inlaws.  We use the rain sound and I usually leave the projector on and then go in and shut it off later but lucky us lately DS hasnt been falling asleep with it on so I just end up having to go in lay him down and shut it off.  Starting to wonder if the projector keeps him up??!  Either way we love it and I would recommend it to everyone!!
