XP: Testosterone Supplements...

My DH has been taking testosterone supplement injections off and on for the past 2 years for weight lifting. We have been TTC # 2 since April 2009. This year we began seeing an RE and have done 5 IUIs. DH's counts come back good so we never said anything about the testosterone thinking it wasn't hurting him. He takes 1.5-2ccs weekly. We are coming around to possibly stopping TTC at the 2 year mark. Can someone tell me if this testosterone could be affecting him in ways that aren't showing on the SAs that could be the reason we aren't getting pregnant?? We got pregnant with DD within 2 months of trying...

I know we should have told the RE from the get go. We didn't and I can't change that. I am asking this because my DH feels since his counts are fine he doesn't need to come off of it. I figure the best thing now is to tell the RE...

I would have definitely have told the RE. My DH has a dx of hypogandatropism. While we were ttc via IUI and IVF--DH had to be on injections of HCG NOT testosterone. Dh has gone off those injections as we have two vials of sperm frozen for DE cycles.

He is now on Testosterone Gel topically on his shoulders and back. We were warned that you can not TTC while on the gel as it will not work. I have no idea about the injects. But I know the gel is "male birthcontrol" as we call it. Any live sperm would not be strong enough to penetrate an egg. I also know it takes three months for the sperm to regenerate.

I would tell your RE before you spend anymore money!

This is what I have always wondered as his numbers are still in the normal range. We will be telling him and should have from the beginning. Thanks for the input.

Where can I find more info on the weak sperm so I can show DH?? Besides the Dr...

Dr. Harper's website, hasn't been updated in quite some time... we go to ART, their website is pretty good, but Dr. Turek's is in my opinion a better website- you can always google semen analysis...

Thanks for the info. We had a talk tonight and he is going to stop the injections. Yay! I do see Dr. Harper, he is great! We have had several SAs, all came back completely normal....

Dr. Harper is a great guy- I would have gone to see him, but I used to be a cosmetologist, and now I a'm a cosmetology instructor- and I used to cut Dr. Harper's hair when I was in the salon. I cut it for a good 4 years...It would just be too weird for me to be his patient...lol.

Also, my sister went to ART in Birmingham and she recommended them as well- they have offices all over the state...

One thing I used to love about Dr. Harper is that whenever I would cut his hair (this was WAY before DH's diagnosis) - I would always have tons of questions- like if I had seen stuff on The Discovery Channel, about babies- those specials about different syndromes- he would always answer questions about it...He is a really good guy...

I love Dr. Harper! He is a greet guy! I completely understand it would be weird after cutting his hair for so long.

I called and confessed to my nurse today and she was more than understanding. She said it is more common than I realized and most of the time the wife doesn't know the husband is even on testosterone. Anyway, they are going to do bloodwork on DH and if he is low they will give him Clomid.

I am glad I came clean...
